I know it's a rubbish cliché, but they just seem to "want it more"Why do the aussies take more delight in taking a wicket than the England team.
Like Johnson. The fucker was a laughing stock until this series now he's some sort of world class bowler. Strange.
Be interesting too see how the Aussies do against South Africa who I believe they play next.
He's not doing anything Harmison and Flintoff didn't do to them and the only complaint then was that nobody checked Ponting was ok when Harmy got him in the face. It's test cricket and as much as it pains me from an English point of view I've really enjoyed watching Johnson in this seriesThe dirty **** is basically bowling bodyline. Look at how many of his wickets are catches behind square leg. If the boot was on the other foot they'd be crying like bairns and threatening to cancel the tour. Is there a legal limit on batsmen body armor? If not I'd have had extra thick Kevlar stuff made up and shipped in for Adelaide. Have our batsmen publicly put it on and take it off everytime he is brought on to bowl.

That bowl to Ponting hit him around line of off/middle stump. Fantastic bowling by Johnson exploiting our weaknesses. Joy to watch. Haway smoker I try to leave the pure football forum behind because its full of whingers and those that look for excuses - usually referees. We have been shite and Johnson has been majestic.
We are talking about building a bight, new team so what do we do we select the ageing Carberry and Anderson for Root and Finn. You just couldn't make it up.
As well as a part time bowler could be expected on debut.how did Scotty do? 7 an over, not ideal.

Laughable how wrong Cook & Flower have got it picking the lad as a leggie.

I note your comment but it seems to me he has been picked largely on his ability to bowl some below average leg-spin. Everything I'm reading is about Borthwick the leggie Borthwick the alternative to the plastic Mag/Monty?Their options were a bit limited really. Swann put the selectors in an impossible position. Panesar was crocked, they probably don't feel Tredwell has any international future and on a seamers wicket the spinner may only be required to bowl a handful of overs. Selecting Borthwick for this test match was probably the least worse option in that he can at least add strength to the batting, fielding and may pick up a couple of useful wickets.
Not ideal but what were better options?

Has he balls man. Been good and quick but majestic? Don't make me laugh.![]()
Where does Flintoff being a better player than Kallis fit into that scale?I agree he's in no way the answer as a number one front line spinner for England. I will be surprised if he is picked in that way in the summer test matches. His best bet is to continue to improve his batting, get into the team on the strength of that and be a useful option for a few overs in the same way Smith is for Australia.[DOUBLEPOST=1388780354][/DOUBLEPOST]
You can play with words all you like - but he has systematically destroyed Trott a quality player. He will probably leave this series with the most amount of wickets ever by an Australian bowler in a 5 test series in the entire history of the ashes . He has currently taken 33 wickets at an average of 13 and you describe his performance as 'good and quick'.
Now I haven't laughed as much as since some knacker reckoned dropping Root would be the end of his test career![]()
Probably because prior to this series Jimmy Andersons record in the previous 3 years was up there with the very best in world cricket. Nobody wouldn't have selected him for this tour. He is still a hugely skilled performer and will take many more wickets for England at home and abroad but not perhaps with the kookaburra ball on bouncy pitches. At this moment in time England can ill afford to be without Jimmy Anderson and of course Swann because they are at least 2 notches above anything else we have. Top notch bowler, past his best but still far too good to discard.

i agree- however picking rankin ahead of finn was madness.[DOUBLEPOST=1388782549][/DOUBLEPOST]
your argument about borthwick not being a bowler is getting tediously repetitive

Not great, his first spell he was dropping a bit short then in his second he was bowling a couple of full tosses per over. Similar to most games I've seen him play in England, thrown in too early in my opinion (desperation). Bowled a few good balls but couldn't create any pressure. Smith hit a full toss for 6 to go to 99 so you're thinking just keep it tight, let him sweat a bit on 99. Next ball full toss hoicked to midwicket for 4.
Smith and Haddin went to hit him out of the attack too.
