5th test team

Much as I like Onions I don't think so. I know Haddin's pulled them out of trouble a few times but the bowling hasn't really been the issue.

Monty's a doubt with a calf injury which boosts Borthwick's chances but I think we'll see Ballance and Tredwell in. Tredwell because he's a safer pair of hands, and less likely to suffer long term from a mauling, and Ballance to take god knows who out of the firing line. And probably a rest for Anderson.

Scotty will get a game, don't worry about him being set back years if he gets smacked around a bit, that won't bother him. He is a great charachter.

I also agree with the previous poster, batting at 9? Absolute nonsense. He is a frontline batsman, I'd have him in at 6, with Stokes 7 and Bairstow ('who should be nowhere near the side) at 8.

Ballance in for Carberry is a no brainer

Bumble seems to think Borthwick, Ballance and Rankin will all play

I'd be ok with that. Aslong as Bairstow and Bresnan are nowhere near the side. I'd drop Root too. So if Bumble is right I'd go - Cook, Carberry, Bell, KP, Ballance, Stokes, Prior, Borthwick, Broad, Anderson, Rankin.

i don't think prior should have been dropped but it would be beyond farcical to bring him back IMO.

Cook, Root, Bell, Pietersen, Ballance, Stokes, Bairstow, Bresnan, Borthwick, Broad, Rankin

or something. chunky put it best though

Not that I f***ing care

Whey maybe, but I can't stand Bairstow. He's f***ing shite. At batting and keeping. Atleast an out of form (with the bat) Prior can still catch the f***ing ball.

i agree but tbf, prior hasn't kept particularly well on this tour - and thatis being generous. you can't drop him, see bairstow play one bad game then bring him back IMO. bairstow is clearly not good enough, should not have played the last test but now he has i say at least play him the next, what exactly have we got to lose?

I sense an agenda here.

No agenda whatsoever mate, I want Ballance in ;). I just feel that Bresnan isn't good enough anymore, Bairstow isn't good enough right now and possibly never will be and Root is in a poor vain of form, gets bogged down and hasn't this minute got the range of shots to get out of the slump.

In the long run, I think root could be an England opener and captain, I just feel right now he should go away from England and get some runs and match practice in the Championship for Yorkshire.

Everytime I read the name borthwick followed by 'leg spinner' I cringe. He should be picked & played as a batsman who can bowl a tiny bit, batting in the middle order. Not as a replacement for Monty/Swann. People need to get it out of their minds that he first emerged as a leg spinner. In reality now he is as much of a Leggie as Mike Atherton was in the early days.

scott borthwick is not an international standard cricketer (yet) and id hate for us to throw him in and he get put back a few years. for england and durhams sake. but it seems that as we are completely gutless the selectors are turning to the gritty northern lads to stand up and fight, could be 8 if you include rankin in the side tonight
