All this talk of Borthwick the leg spinner is worrying. Lets get this right, he's a batting allrounder. He's Barely a better Spinner than Joe Root or Steve Smith imho.

If they select him as a spinner and bat him at 8 I give up on cricket.

tbf he has excelled for durham at both 3 and 8.

i can understand people saying he should bat at 3 as that is where he bats for durham, but durham is not england. if you are trying to tell me that scott borthwick is one of the best batsmen in england then i would say that is rubbish. if we want to bring in a batsman it should be ballance, and move bell to 3.

equally he is not that excellent a leggie yet that he would get in as a 10 or 11. he gets in for me as an all rouner and as such should bat as an all rounder - however due to his age and the situation i would bat him lower down the order to ease him into the test arena. 8/9 depending on who else is around him.
 
Picking a batting allrounder to bad 8 is just hideous, sorry like. I cringe everytime I read an article and it describes him as a leg spinner etc.

Hope the selectors know what they are doing, dont want another bright career being ruined.
 
It's criminal that we have no-one to bring in that looks ready for Test cricket. You can't be chucking 20 year olds into the Ashes, it reeks of mismanagement at the top of the English game.

Yup, bit of a joke that in 6 matches we'll have picked Kerrigan, Swann, Panesar and Borthwick.
