Prior

The decision would make sense if it wasn't for two things:

1) Prior is a much better keeper
2) Prior is a much batter batsman
Bairstow is the future Prior is NOT.Give Bairstow the experience with Buttler waiting in the wings,For Petes sake Prior has had his day.Its time to move on.[DOUBLEPOST=1388064052][/DOUBLEPOST]
Give him a run. How do people expect these young 'uns to get used to Test cricket? They are only playing for pride now to do their best - Ashes have gone. Go on give the team a spring clean.
Well said.Agree 100%.[DOUBLEPOST=1388064198][/DOUBLEPOST]Cant believe the "stick in the mud2 selectors have not included Ballance and Finn in the Fourth Test team in place of the ageing pair of Carberry and Anderson.Unbelievable.

I'm all for a change. But Bairstow is not the right man

And as I have told you in other threads, if Finn can't even hit the strip, playing him is a ridiculous idea

His late father David was a fine wicketkeeper/batsman for Yorkshire who would have won more caps for England were it not for the brilliant Allan Knott and then Bob Taylor.Dont forget there were major doubts about Prior when he was first brought in to the side but with experience the decision was eventually proven to be the right one.Its far too early to write Bairstow off.As for Finn he is worth persevering with.He will come good. You could say it is a ridiculous idea to play the whole team for that matter as none of them have covererd themselves in glory all out of sorts.

I'm not sure how someone's dad qualifies anyone to do anything

My dad is good at DIY, I shouldn't take up painting as I'm shite at it

Bairstow has pedigree that's all similar to Chris Broad/Stuart Broad.

Who else is there? Theres Buttler and Bairstow first in line after Prior. Both deserve a chance to stake a claim with Bairstow just ahead at the moment.[DOUBLEPOST=1388075658][/DOUBLEPOST]Foakes is another contender but needs to continue to progress.

Side stepping the argument about prior/bairstow.....

prior has really shown the way to respond to his place being under threat, great messages sent out by him publicly and through his actions.

Do they deserve a chance if they are not better than what we have?

I honestly don't see either as test keepers. And neither are good enough with the bat

Stop saying Buttler is 'waiting in the wings'. He couldn't get in the Somerset side as 'keeper last year man.

Prior is 31/32. Five more years left in him, have Sydney to prove Bairstow is shite then get him back.
Back if he scores some runs at the start of the season. As far as I'm concerned keeper for the next test is who has the best start to the season of Prior, Bairstow, Buttler and Davies. Or they decide to give Buttler a run as he looks good enough to play all 3 formats with the bat. His keeping looked good in the one dayers he's played but if he couldn't get the gloves off Kieswetter he's got a bit to prove at Lancs. I like that he's gone there to keep wicket and not just relying on his batting to get him in the team though.

County form means fuck all these days as seen with onions, tremlett and co. You told us Monty would never play for england again as he couldn't get a county.[DOUBLEPOST=1388320399][/DOUBLEPOST]

Think prior will rrediscover his form under new leadership, one of a number of quality players to suddenly look third rate with the bat.

Hmmmm, I think I said that Monty wouldn't play in the last Test of the summer and that he was unlikely to make the tour squad, because he didn't have a club and wasn't bowling. Half wrong but hardly a controversial opinion.

Buttler's name seems to be being pushed on here because of a few T20/ODI innings, despite the fact that his 1st class record is average (at best) and that he didn't keep wicket for his County last year. Again, I don't think it's unreasonable to see how he does as a regular 'keeper before we dump one of our better players.

If you can't see the distinction between the two, then fine and dandy.[DOUBLEPOST=1388415394][/DOUBLEPOST]

So do I, and I think he has a chance to make it.

On another point. I hope everyone who has slated Prior's keeping as 'schoolboy' and 'pathetic' and so on had a good look at Bairstow's performance and noted that he made more ricks in a day than Prior has for years.
