Expected to be dropped for the Boxing Day Test

Play Bairstow at No.6 and Stokes at No.7?[DOUBLEPOST=1387664675][/DOUBLEPOST]Assuming Broad is out. I'd go:

Cook
Carberry
Root
Bell
Ballance
Bairstow
Stokes
Bresnan
Finn
Anderson
Panesar

bair stow will i fear be chewed up and spat out by johnson ........ mind might build some character..... should we really be using tests to play bresnan back into form?

Rankin for Finn I reckon on the basis that Finn is having allsorts of issues with his bowling at the minute.[DOUBLEPOST=1387708639][/DOUBLEPOST]

I seem to remember him getting a good 99 against Steyn, Philander, Morkel etc. You are probably right though.

It would be an absolute disgrace dropping Stokes down to seven.

With the retirement of Swann and what looks like a changing of the guard, England should be building a team round Stokes at 6.

I agree. Despite what Boycott has said, Stokes showed a hell of a lot of character in that last test and England should stick with him now, regardless of form. He will no doubt have the odd failure as we Durham fans know too well, but he's a young lad with boatloads of talent. Tell him the place is his for the foreseeable future and he will not only grow quickly into a decent all rounder and no 6 test batsmen, but will soon be batting higher up the order.

Dropping him down the order now would send out the wrong message.

Surely no team in the history of cricket has ever been built around a number 6 batsman?

To an extent, the Ashes winning side of 05 was built around Flintoff at 6. It gives great balance. You pick five genuine batsmen from 1-5, a keeper at 7, three seamers and a spinner.

If England are looking to the future now, then Stokes has to be at the heart of it

Give him a run. How do people expect these young 'uns to get used to Test cricket? They are only playing for pride now to do their best - Ashes have gone. Go on give the team a spring clean.

Prior has been a good servant but his England career is over.We need to look to the future and start to give the gloves to Bairstow now with the hope that Jos Buttler or another will challenge him

At 31 he has plenty of time to come again, Haddin got back in at 36, Paul Nixon was 36 when he got picked. Think Prior assuming he scores runs will be back in by the end of next year and will only lose his place if Buttler continues to develop his 1st class game as he did this year.

Strong rumours on the TMS podcast that he'll be left out for Bairstow. Can't really grumble with that, I'm not sure JB is the answer like but he's worth a try in the next two tests for me.

Chopping and changing the squad is simply an attempt to polish a turf. The problem is Flower, shit tactics, shit preparation, uncertainty ovrr future. He has taken the team full circle and needs to go.
