I know they've been in decline for some time now but did you ever think you'd see the day that on a green top in swinging conditions the Windies would decide their best option was to pick 2 spinners?
It was more a comment about the lack of options available to them. If they can only find 2 quicks and one of them is Sammy they're in big trouble. Seems to have been 10/15 years since West Indies followers have been saying they've got too many kids playing football and basketball instead of cricket and something needed to be done. If they did do anything (and I've got a feeling inter-island politics doesn't help) it's not bearing any fruit, they look a shambles at the minute and the young talent coming through doesn't seeming to be cutting it given how often they go back to the tried and tested (and failed).I assume they picked the best available players they had.
Just because the Windies don't have fast bowlers of the standard they had in the 70's and 80's does not mean cricket is dead. The batch they had then were exceptional, and out of keeping with what went before, but just because they have not got that sort of quality now does not mean they won't in the future.

Windies have been poor for the last 15 years. Where are the tall fast bowlers? Where are the short batting geniuses?
They just aren't as interested anymore I don't think. I remember England tours there in the 1990s where the grounds were packed out (Gravy doing his antics and everything). It was more a comment about the lack of options available to them. That West Indies team of the late 1970s/early1980s has to be the finest Test side ever.
No way.No contest. Not sure about that mind, their were a great side but think the Australian side with Waugh twins, gilchrist warne and McGrath were just that little bit better

Sir Geoffrey Boycott said that the touring West Indies team of 1980 was the best test playing team of all time.
I think you underestimate the four pronged pace bowlers and this side had Malcolm Marshall waiting to make his debut.Pound for pound I agree with Boycs the Windies were the best of all time.Think Warne would have give Australia the edge with spinner option, not sure how will the West Indies team would have played top class spinner, the team you show above looks to have a long tail to me,plus Gilchrist changed the face test cricket was played with his attacking style, although must admit them first 3 West Indies batsman were awesome and you are right about Sir Viv but sorry still give Australia the edge
That WI team were undefeated for something like 14 years. No team in any sport has come close to equalling thatNot sure about that mind, their were a great side but think the Australian side with Waugh twins, gilchrist warne and McGrath were just that little bit better
Undefeated in a test series, they lost odd tests. That WI team were undefeated for something like 14 years. No team in any sport has come close to equalling that
