OK then, for shits and giggles....

Which Overton do you mean? And why is he in your team for next year, but not 2017 given that he (they've) only played a handful of first class matches?

Ditto for Robson.

Why have you moved the skipper, and world's best opening bat, out of his natural position?

When do you expect Woakes and Kerrigan to step up, given that they're in your 2017 team but not this one?

Are there any other names from the 2017 thread that you learned over the last couple of days that you think might see instead?

Jamie,of course. The Robsons and Overtons need fast tracking like Rooty. Moving Cook to 3 should relieve some pressure of captaincy.Woakes and Kerrigan still in squad but must improve on debuts which they can still do.Feel free to inform if Ive missed anyone out.Give them the experience now then they will have several years experience under their belts by the time the next Ashes series comes around. If there is a better alternative than Andy Flower as coach then we should appoint him preferably English. The Aussies wouldn't be in this position regaining Ashes if they still had Mickey Arthur in charge. All credit to Lehmann.

Of course? Give them experience for 2017? You didn't know who they were two days ago man.

For what it's worth, there'll be no major surgery to the team. Swann, Pietersen and Anderson will all play against India unless they call time themselves.

Why am I on this thread? Stupid boy.

Thinks he s Captain Mainwaring now.[DOUBLEPOST=1387283629][/DOUBLEPOST]
Bairstow isn't a test wicketkeeper. Nor test quality batsman come to think of it. I'd be unhappy if they dropped Prior.
Jos Buttler an alternative.

Massive series in Sri Lanka with the Lions for Buttler. If he does well there and has a good start to the season I could see him moving ahead of Bairstow. From what I've seen of him keeping wicket in the T20's he's done a good job. Also he'll have the advantage of actually keeping wicket for his county side.

Graeme Smith may disagree. On recent performances I wouldn't put him in the top five.

I'd have smith over cook any day of the week.

It's funny like, but Smith was struggling just as badly as Cook up until he smacked the Pakistani attack round Dubai last month. All the talk was whether he'd lost it and should he still be captain blah blah blah, but his class came through in the end.

Cook (and the batting records he's broken over the years and will do in the future) will be fine.

Your stock answer to everything - do nowt the boy will come good.

Scored the same number of test centuries in 2013 as Nick Compton who you assure us is not good enough for England. The fact of the matter is he is one of several players not performing to his full capabilities as a cricketer before he got on the plane to Aus.

Your stock answer to everything - after a defeat rip everything apart. Easy game this.

This time last year Cook was scoring buckets of runs and leading the side to a series win in India, since then he's been named captain of the ICC World XI. What's Test average this year? I'll guess at somewhere around 35? While obviously not enough it's hardly the complete disaster that this forum would have you believe. I find it very easy to have faith in players like Cook who have been at the very top of the game for year after year.

The problem I had with Nick Compton was that he was bombed out of Middlesex because he wasn't good enough, and has had a bit of a renaissance on the batting paradise that is Taunton. No, I don't think he's good enough and the fact that he's already in his 30s means he's probably not worth persevering with. For Compton read Carberry IMO, strange selection.

His wicket keeping has been dreadful for about 10 years!!

plainly not true, we worked hard on his glove work to the point where it was very very good after a dreadful few years after coming into the team. its been dreadful for about 1 series now
