Scott Borthwick has been selected for the England Lions squad for the tour of Sri Lanka during February and March.

Chris Woakes as captain ffs. What long term future do they think this military medium number 7 bat has in test cricket?

Ashley Giles star pupil, it's quite laughable.

Similar to Alex Bruce turning up to play for his Dad (everywhere other than here, thank fuck) when in reality he is a league 1 player.

just reading about sam robson got me wondering... i know with him australia wanted him to choose them.. and whilst for some conveniece comes first surely there must be some who feel strongly enough about the place of their birth to say no to an adopted country....

im thinking particularly about stokes now - unlike south africa in the case of pietersen and trott new zealand are not exactly blessed with great players.. does anyone think or know if NZ put any effort or attempt to see if stokes would have an interest in representing them?

Fair play to the lad, he is a good county player, but you need to be far more than that at test level. How does he expect to take wickets bowling 70mph seamers in South Africa or Australia? IMO a test all-rounder should earn his place on batting or bowling alone, not being OK at both.

A couple of years ago New Zealand had a look around for any players that were eligible to play for them and sounded them out, that was when they got Ronchi to play for them. Apparently they did speak to Stokes at the time but he wanted to play for England. I think it Ian Smith who said that during the series v New Zealand at the start of the summer.
