Australia v England - 2nd Ashes Test, Adelaide

Being Wisden Cricketer of the year does not mean you should have an automatic place in the side. So Compton had a few decent knocks on those flat New Zealand pitches, but he didn't look great in India and was then poor against New Zealand in the home series. Carberry, for a "second division journeyman", has actually done okay so far. He's really the least of England's worries. Not sure why some are acting like Nick Compton could be some sort of saviour. Yes, he was made a scapegoat of unfairly, but I think you're kidding yourself if you think he'd have made any difference to what's happened in these first 2 tests.

Compton did fine in India, he averaged 35, but occupied the crease for a long time, took the shine off the ball and allowed Cook to build some big scores.

Carberry's done no worse than the others but seems to get himself out trying to attack the bowling. I really don't see a big innings in him.

We really need players who will be patient and dig in, not sell their wickets cheap and Compton would give us options there.

Add to which Root has been poor.

Just want to see some sense and nous from more than two batsemen. Watching England bat has been predictably enfuraiting for the past two years, be ncie to just see a good couple of batsmen get in and play each ball on its own merits[DOUBLEPOST=1386374467][/DOUBLEPOST]Rhino from Gladiators coming out to bat

Been here half an hour, two strips seen, both NUFC

Look out for a bonny lad in camouflage shorts and a black t shirt under the scoreboard.

When it rains it pours

Hope it's a good day mate.[DOUBLEPOST=1386376768][/DOUBLEPOST]What a f***ing god awful shot from Root.

Not good enough to bat up the order yet, I'm afraid, Joe.
We need Pietersen's obligatory Adelaide century for us to have any chance of saving this.

Said it in the summer, they should have stuck with Compton opening. This series looks ideal for him to shine.
