they are an above average team will finish between 7th and 10th

Top 4 is locked in - Chelsea, Arsenal, City, Man U.
Liverpool are next in 5th unless Spurs sort themselves out. Everton look good too but can't see them above Liverpool or Spurs at the end of the season.

I'd say 8th is just about as good as Newcastle could probably finish which would be decent. More investment and ambition is needed if we actually want to challenge those 7 but I can't see either materialising in the near future. 8th is good enough for Ashley.

f***ing hell midds 8th would be a cracking finish don't get too cocky mate

Amuses me how confidently people can predict that they won't finish high up after they a) already did it the last time they weren't in Europe and b) have a better team than they did then.

The reason we can go on runs like these is because we have a lot of quality in our side, we did last season and we did the season before, unfortunately its our manager's limitations that generally lets us down, which is why I can't see us ever doing anything hugely significant under his tenure.

Not to mention the owners reluctance to spend money.

High top half finishes is probably about the limit, anything can happen in the cups I suppose but very unlikely.

Players Pardew used to finish 5th , in order of appearances:

Krul 38
Jonas 37
Coloccini 35
Simpson 35
Cabaye 34
Ba 32
Tiote 24
RTaylor 23
Williamson 21
Santon 19
Obertan 18
Best 16
Ben Arfa 16
Guthrie 13
Cisse 13
Perch 13
STaylor 14
Shola Ameobi 8

Also Vuckic, Sammy Ameobi, Ferguson, Lovenkrands, Barton, Smith, Marveaux, Gosling, Alan Smith

Aye absolutely dripping in quality that lot. Imagine what you could have achieved without your "limited manager" (of the year). Champions League? Champions?

I would encourage you to go marching around St James' with your bedsheets out demanding a new manager, but unfortunately your owner long ago stopped paying attention to the thick twats that support the club.

Which is a shame really, as the entire country really did used to enjoy laughing at the consequences of fat fred following orders from the hysterical deluded toon army.

Considering the negligible investment, aye. That's the crux of it though.

Finishing 8th is now something to be celebrated apparently. I just want them to show a bit more ambition and push it (sensibly) to get amongst the top 7 and ruffle a few feathers.

as a quite sensible mag (not many about especially on here) where do you think position wise you should be aiming for and what clubs do you hope to finish above just out of interest

Hard to get value in the current market.......no point spending unless it's mega money on one or two recognised quality players.

We should be ambitious enough to finish as high up the league as possible. Given the current lack of investment then 8th is the current ceiling. Unless the club changes hands then that's about as good as it's going to get as the owner does not possess the ambition to finish any higher. The club does not possess the manager to manage a European campaign AND the domestic stuff. Qualifying for Europe would be a complete non-event under the current regime. The manager can't handle it and the owner won't strengthen the squad sufficiently to help him.

8th is good enough for all of them. That'll do.

We have a much better team this year than when we finished 5th. Pardew seems to have stopped with the hoof ball football and we are playing some good football. He's definitely a better manager now thsn when he first arrived.

It's too early to say where we will finish but the amount if bitternes in this thread is just ridiculous.

Pardew has done a top job there, truth of the matter is he asks his team to go out and express themselves, which makes perfect sense as that if where their strength lies.[DOUBLEPOST=1385849419][/DOUBLEPOST]

Ow yeah, Sunderland fans being bitter towards their most bitter rivals is completely ridiculous....

Oh yes, without doubt 8th is the ceiling at the moment - clearly not good enough for a massive club like Newcastle, the owner has to go, such a tragic situation.

Obviously 8th is only the ceiling when you're not in 5th, and of course with a better manager you'd be even higher - its all the fault of that manager - you have to get him out.

Oh no wait, its the owner you want out isn't it? Because he won't sign the players? No it's the manager you want out? He's not doing well enough with such a quality squad? I'm all confused.

I suppose if the manager can't handle Europe (I mean he only got to the quarter finals and beat Gus Hiddink at his first attempt) then he has to carry the can. The Barcelurna of the North expect better than that.
