1st Ashes Test - Brisbane

I don't see all those players being on toast like. Cook and KP looked comfortable in the second inningd and simply played loose shots. Trott has certainly got problems and I'm surprised it took this long for them to work out if you don't give prior width he is fucked.
Would disagree, Cook looks like he is really struggling to cope with the bowlers, his immense powers of concentration and determination is what is getting him scores. kP got a working over from Siddle

Disgusted with the comments from Clarke and Bailey to Anderson. Australia captain and just what the hell has Bailey done in test cricket to justify his right to sledge Jimmy. Warners comments were out of order too. Nothing worse than a gloating Australia.

Could be in a for a long series as;
Harris has cook on toast.
Johnson has Trott
Siddle has kp
Smith has Bell
Johnson has Root
Siddle has Prior.

Everytime one of our batsmen comes in they are having to face a bowler that has repeatedly got them out cheaply, theres no respite.
Would seriously consider having Ballance and Stokes play the warm up as both would add attacking impetus to the team, Prior just looks shot right now
Smith has bell how you work that out?

Please don't say Lords and please tell me you meant siddle.

Must have been watching a different second innings. Cook never looked in any trouble and KP is playing against his natural instincts when patting the ball back.

I'd put Stokes in if only to rattle a few cages in the England camp and make them aware that they arent indispensible. Wont happen though. Likely the same team for the next test.

Another worry-we had them 130 odd for 6 at one point, they doubled that and then some before getting out, that's quite a drop off from the attack and the pitches are only going to become more hostile to our bowlers

The long and short if it for me is that Aus want it more and have prepared extensively for it, and it shows. England have been complacent and dare I say lazy in their preparation, which given the stakes is unforgivable. Those are character traits that have been on display since gaining No 1 status, been in decline ever since. It's like the hunger has gone for a lot of them or something, even after losing that title.

Totally disagree, Cook has only lost 2 tests and England are very resilient, the number of times they scrape a draw by batting out the 5th day shows the fight that is within the team.

Obviously well beaten this week but that can happen, doesn't make them a bad team over night. I think they can come back from this, they do have a chance in the next test, as conditions should favour England more.

Batting to save the 5th day is not the hallmark of a team who were once no 1 is it. Top teams win Tests with a day to spare. We're clearly in decline. England have been average now for a year or so.

Not sure how next Test will suit us more, when conditions there are generally a road for a track, our batting order has struggled to get anywhere near a commanding total in an innings apart from on the odd occasion, and when they have a pace man in their attack and we don't?

the one thing no one can underestimate is the effect darren lehman has had on the team since he took over. none of the players had any respect for micky arthur but lehman is one of 'them' and he's had a massive impact. one major difference is his attitude to spin, he's told the aussies to go after swann, which they did in this test and will do throughout the series. the belief and confidence he's given them is immeasurable and it comes through when the players are interviewed. we had that in 2010 and need to get it back sharpish.
Bang on. I

Exactly this, Lehman has been very honest this was the plan. We should have identical plans for all their batsmen as well as tactics for countering the Aussie tactics. It's like we are expecting our sheer quality to bowl them out! Very reminiscent of the 88 Ashes where 'the worst Ashes team to leave Australia' came over here and destroyed our batting = shocking overconfidence.

All those saying its only the Gabba, we always start slow etc need to take their head out of the sand, there is a huge discrepancy in preparation that needs addressing asap.

People are too hardened by years of England being crap! Batting to save the series in Auckland seen as some sort of achievement, not a wake up call.

We have only scored 400+ 8 times in our last 50 innings now. 0 times in our last 18

We are in decline the reason we won the ashes in the summer was thanks to ian bell and our bowlers. The other 6 batsmen were in the main shite.

Overeaction on here is staggering really, aren't as good as we once were but wasn't that long ago we won in India.

If they can't play the short ball with the bat then they need to duck and take a few.

Other than that we didn't have much troubles IMO and just git out to nothing balls.

sounds like trouble to me mind... they bowled well and kept the pressure on, we couldn't dig in and build partnerships. so whether it's the really good ball that got a wicket (bell), or a nothing ball (trott) then it's really a product of the same thing. i'm really glad there's a week or so break between these first 2 test so they can get their heads together.
