Altidore/Borini

True. He didn't have much to do today. He looked more like a right winger because he didn't have to defend much.

What makes Fletcher so good? Is cause he is a good lead striker for relegated sides or because he is not American?
He's a f***ing good premier league striker that's why. Nothing to do with being in relegated sides for Christ sake.

Nothing to do with being American either. I think altidore a decent just no where near as good as fletcher and not as good as borini.

His movement off the ball, which creates scoring opportunities. This is the most important quality for any striker. And yes, the fact he scores goals even when surrounded by poor players is a pretty good sign of quality.

I think Fletcher is overrated a bit by the SMB. His teams have never finished above 17th. If he is not scoring goals he isn't doing much. Altidore might be worse than Fletcher or Borini but in my original comment I was talking about Cameron.

One man does not a team make. He's been our most consistent threat whatever way you look at it. He may not have scored many yet this season, but he's by far our best option. Teams he has played for may have gone down, but it's been in spite of him rather than because of him. It's not just the SMB that rates Fletch, you will hear nothing but praise from commentators and pundits about him, and he's earned it, in my opinion.

Try and watch football a bit before you make daft comments Yankee Doodle.

Fletcher has the quality to be playing for a top 6 team imo.

Jozy and Borini should start next match. Fletcher and Giaccherini should be dropped.

Fletcher still looks unfit or maybe he's still hurting...Bring him off the bench for the last 15-10 minutes.

Giaccherini is just too weak for this league...maybe he would be better off as a sub going against defenders who are too tired to muscle him off the ball....

Jozy and Borini as our 2 forwards from now on....Let's give the younger guys a chance to play.

We can't keep throwing the same team out there...give others a chance....I'd even replace Johnson for Mavrias and Colback with Cabral.

Mate, Altidore looks rubbish. Fletch s twice the striker he is; giachh is a more skilfull player. I can't agree with your assessment above

Before this season, how many times have you ever watched Fletcher play?
Not much. Maybe one or two games at most, but I wasn't having a go at fletcher. He seems a good player and he is more a goal threat than Altidore for sure. I was replying to this comment by Bishop: "Fletcher has more skill in his receded hair then any American 'soccer player' could ever hope of having" which is bullshit spewed just to antagonize American fans. The statement is even more ridiculous considering Geoff Cameron, an American, played better today than Fletcher.

And about Fletcher being overrated, read some of the crap on here. He gets the benefit of the doubt on here always. If he doesn't score, its because the midfields shit but with any other striker who doesnt score they are shit. Its laughable the love he gets for being an average to good Premiere League striker.[DOUBLEPOST=1385242421][/DOUBLEPOST]

In my opinion you are a deluded Fletcher fanboy. Who is he gonna displace from a top 6 club?

Fletcher has scored goals in significant numbers in every Premiership season he has played.

We are a third of the way into Altidore's second season, and still patiently awaiting goal number two.

I am a fan of Altidore, and want him to live up to his promise. But right now, he should not be even mentioned in the same breath as Fletcher as a Premier League striker.

He gets the benefit of the doubt because he has proven his ability and earned it. When he gets service he scores goals.

You can argue all you like about Altidore not getting the service and you might have a point, but he has not put in one memorable performance in English football so far and until he does, there will rightly be question marks over him.

As for the comments spewed just to antagonise American fans, unfortunately that is the by product of the morons like the op and their very biased posting on these threads. At the end of the day, every Sunderland fan wants every Sunderland player to be a world beater. Most of the new American fans don't care as long as Altidore plays well.

To be fair to Jozy, he played well the last time he started...He was dropped after the league cup match against Southampton for Giaccherini who has had 2 poor matches in a roll and Poyet still starting him...Jozy was man of the match against Southampton.

My hope is Jozy is re-instated for the poor Giaccherini.

I also don't believe Poyet should be setting the team up in a 4-5-1 against team that "clearly" can be beaten...Should had set up with 2 strikers and go at them...It is clear that even Fletcher will have problem scoring goals with no support up top...I even think a 3-5-2 against teams like Stoke, Fulham, Norwich would give Sunderland a better chance of winning then 4-5-1.

4-5-1 should be deployed against much stronger team like Man C where a draw would do, but not stoke...u need 3 points here and we can't generate enough offense with just Fletcher up top.

I also believe Jozy has better attributes and potential to fit into a 4-5-1 then Fletcher...In a 4-5-1, u need the striker to be very strong to hold off defenders while waiting for overlapping run + need to pass well...Jozy has shown those 2 qualities.....Fletcher is the better finisher who poaches goal, but he need another striker beside him to act as a camouflage and distract his marker.

Jozy best match was in a 4-5-1 against southampton..he got 2 assist and some very nice passes..one that Gardner missed when jozy nicely flicked it right into his feet....Then the perfect set up to Larsson.

He's shit.

It's interesting how fans have changed from supporting their team and its members to now often competing fiercely with one another to criticise our players. Somehow criticism seems more important than support.

I think Fletcher has been slightly disappointing recently. I think Jozy has linked up and layed off the ball quite promisingly sometimes. Neither is Ronaldo, so why get so negative and critical? Let's just get behind our promising new manager, and be supporters?
