Your best day as a Sunderland fan

Probably the 2-1 beamback with Superkev scoring that goal from some unspeakable angle. I was in the sports bar at the stadium and the place went up like nothing else. Apparently the beer was coming through the ceiling on the floor below. We were dancing about in the premier concourse afterwards.

That said you probably won't see this again as a Sunderland fan:

When we beat Man City 1-0 New Year's Day a couple of years ago- most emotional I've ever been at a game

Aye, celebrated for about 5 minutes when we scored, buzzing big time

Best day for me, thus far was the 2-1 win over the mags in october 2008, after not beatring the bastards at home in decades !!

Yes the first 2-1 beamback for me. Grown me hugging and crying after being shit on for decades.

Richardson 2-1 as i was there and at 30 odd got picked up like a toddler off me dad.

Notable mention for Chelsea 92.

5-5-73 Nothing before or since compares. How could it?
Honourable mentions... 26/12/62 (my first game, Aged 7, Xmas treat - effectively Cloughie's last)
... Fifth round replay win v Man City in 73, my vote for greatest game at Roker.
... 2-1 v Mags last month (just when all hope seemed to have gone...)

Since the question is "since 1973": Probably Armstrong's header, or Rowell's goal against Leeds, his first for 18 months.

Or Hawley v Arsenal, or Howard Gayle v Forest

Sorry... Despite the op not answering his own question in that post, you can't draw a line in the sand like that (well, you can - but I object!).... It's ageism against us baby boom gadgies! Just as football existed before 1992, it certainly existed - gloriously - before May 6, 1973.
By the way, question for the younger singers - why not dust off the original (73 vintage) slower "Ha'way the Lads". Absolutely class, punctuated with the clap-clap-clap!

Would say the play off win for me

its very strange being a sunderland fan!..that balmy sunny afternoon in may 2009 was a very enjoyable day in many ways. The pressure, the relief, the joy, the bemused look on the chelsea players and fans when that roar went up after the final whistle as we had just got beat..........a cracking day out !That roar was amazing, i was listening on the radio for the result then it was like an explosion going off ffn brilliant.
It was my dads 70th birthday that day too! What a 70th birthday pressie he got! ;):)

Look at the 5 teams just above us. All bad Stoke have since been relegated. Two almost gone bust.

I have a photo somewhere with the third division trophy

other than that

Armstrongs header
John Byrne goal in the semi
little Stan Cummins scoring against the Mags
Cardiff away just for seeing the sheer number of fans that day

Many magic moments
Grimsby at home in 62/63 my first match.
Boxing Day 62 for all the wrong reasons
Man City replay in 73 - best game ever

But the one that I rate was the match against Bolton in 75/76 we won easy and promoted as champions. Another 50k+ crowd. Reidy and Fat Sam could not handle it that day.
