Enjoyed that. Dobell spoke really well there, especially with regard to the 'result pitches'. Must say though, that Alex bloke seemed a bit I'll-informed. Almost a stereotypical lazy southern journalist. Didn't seem to know what he was talking about at times, as if he's never left that bedroom he was in

Dobell is superb - consistently talks (and writes) good sense, and is incredibly well informed because, unlike some, he actually spends the time travelling the county circuit and watches games.

Future Wisden editor.

Listen to the cricinfo switch hit county preview for April and Dobell is one of those national journos who tipped us to go down

Not really a problem seeing the admiration he has for our performances

It seems the negative vibes around the club affected the pundits more than the wins we had at the end of last season

It wasn't an outrageous thing to suggest really even though we did end last season well. We had result pitch up here but no overseas pro, no Benkenstein, Collingwood one year older, Stoneman with no history of producing runs at the top of the order, Borthwick at 3 (who would have predicted his success there), most would have been happy to see Smith leave. No right to expect the performances we got from Harrison, Arshad etc. We were magnificent this year but it went against what we were looking at in May IMO.

Disagree slightly rents. We had the best bowler on the circuit, the best young talent in Stokes, one of the best keeper batsman and a proven captain on the intl and domestic stage. We have a proven track record of producing seamers but will concede that a few of the young batters outperformed

Fair enough mate. You always predicted we would have a good season and always gave your reasons why.

Stoneman a bit narked he didnt get on A tour, have the selectors spoke to him at all do you know?

I don't know where I have been I didn't even know the Lions party had been announced. I don't know if he has had conversations with the selectors but he thought there was a decent chance. He has his cricket itinerary sorted from October through to when Durham go to Abu Dhabi but it was all dependent on him not being selected for the tour which he was hopeful of.

Could listen to that, always listen to their weekly podcasts

I was very surprised that one of Borthwick and Stoneman didn't go, scoring over a 1000 runs, including half of your games at the Riv is impressive

According to this the Champions v MCC game is back at Lords next year. Do we know for sure it's in AD? Martin Emmerson seems to think so.

For those who missed the Lions announcement, Wood is in the squad but he and Overton are going to stay in the UK for weights and conditioning so what the point of naming them in the squad was I don't know. Borthwick has had a winter in Australian club cricket sorted out for him in conjunction with the ECB, Stoneman is doing whatever Rentaghost says he is, good summer next year and he's got to be in the frame though.

According to the club the Abu Dhabi game is 23rd-26th March - packages available for trips leaving on the 20th and back on the 27th . However Martin Emerson says the club is playing in a T20 tournament in Dubai on the 28th and that the 4-dayer will follow on from that - 30th March to 2nd April. We'll see.
