Players contracts for 2014

Anybody heard anything about who is being released or retained for next season. Now into September i would have thought some players must have been told either way.
Harmy has gone, Claydon will probably be at another county next season, can't see Brathwaite being retained if he is in the last year of his contract.
Then there is Smith, Muchall, Breese and Thorp all out of contract i can't see the club retaining all of them.
Then finally you have the 3 younger players Stokes, Borthwick and Richardson who iam sure the club are desperate to keep hold of but as far as i know have not signed new contracts.
That is more than half the squad they can't loose them all even if money is tight.

They should break the bank (so to speak) for Stokes and Borthwick. For me, those lads are the type you can build a team around. Plus I'd imagine Stokes will get some kind of England contract soon, which will save us a few quid too.

As good a servant as Thorp has been for us, maybe he should be moved on. With the likes of Harrison, Wood and Arshad coming through as decent bowling options, it's hard to imagine Thorp will get much game time next season.

I've always been a big critic of Smith but I do believe he's done enough to warrant another year or two at the club. I also think Breese is worth another year.

In the main, youth has proven successful and therefore youth has to be the future.

Its a shame a football style market didnt exist where we could "sell" a worthy (albeit imho expendable) asset in Phil Mustard to generate funds for a good overseas player.

Then give the Gloves to Richardson who must be the best reserve keeper batsman in County Cricket imho.

Wouldnt suprise me if another county were eyeing him up.

Saying that, get rid of Mustard & we have zero chance of winning a limited overs trophy next season...

I am told that Borthwick has another year to run and that Stokes has agreed in principle to sign on again. Not sure about the others.

I was talking to one of the players Fathers the other day who told me that and contrary to popular belief there is no such thing as say a "1 day contract". All players are given contracts and then paid according to what the club offers then by way of type of cricket.

I am told that Gareth Breese wife is a GP up here, must therefore earn a canny wage, so its doubtful that Breese would turn down a contract if offered another one. Muchall has already said that he will not tout himself around the County circuit if DCCC didnt offer him a contract due to family reasons.

Thats good news on Borthwick and Stokes.

Claydon has signed a 2 year contract at Kent, Brathwaite was on trial at Hampshire last week, and Thorp isn't being renewed.

They will have been offered playing contracts - like everyone else - on one day money. I'm told that there is no such thing as a one day contract.

Semantics. It's basically reduced terms while still being contracted full time with the understanding of signing to play limited overs cricket.

Ok, agreed maybe not signed
I'm not meaning to pull you up about it just correcting a misconception that some people have of a system where there are multiple and different types of contracts that players sign ie 1 for T20, 1 for the YB40 and 1 for the LVCC. They sign one contract only and receive a recompense to cover for whatever they sign up for.
