I am involved in junior cricket within the county, I am not employed by DCCC but have done a number of coaching sessions for them in the past. I could have some influence in the direction of junior cricket but I am by no means high up!!

Who is the player who is content at CLS 2nds that doesn't want to play 1sts? AN? As for why somebody might stay and play 2nds... cricket is a sport played for enjoyment. Many seniors are happy not to push themselves as they are content playing at the club where they are happy and playing with mates. I'm not saying this is the right attitude to have, it is just one reason why people don't move elsewhere.
Clubs cant have it both ways though can they.

You cant say on the one hand that you are being denied opportunities within a club due to competition and having loads of players; and then turn around and say that its ok for places to be denied due to players who are happy to occupy places forever and a day that other lads are keen to get. There is a balance between enjoyment and those who have ambition. Some clubs dont strike the right balance. If you have talented players you look after them properly or they will simply leave.

I'm still intrigued by who you are and how you know which teams my son was playing for. You clearly know CLS CC well and you clearly know who my son is.

You're completely right and it's the balance that is the key. Some clubs don't have the balance right and there is a problem if this is the case. Done in the right way talented individuals will have the chance to progress through the ranks at a club they enjoy playing at. It is for the club to decide if they want to play players who are just happy to play at a certain level. It is vital however that clubs have a pathway for talented kids to progress through their club. I can say that in the example you have given there is a lot more than meets the eye.

I have a lot of connections at CLS CC and watch a lot of cricket there. I can vouch to all on here that your son is an excellent player with a big future ahead of himself! I am not connected as such to any club and take interest in cricket all over the county but know a lot more about CLS than any other club.

Q1 - Out of interest do the county under 11's still play against Northumberland etc. or do the proper games not start until the under 12's age group?

Q2 - As for the debate on who to play for etc. It is a choice which only you can make. As long as the standard is challenging the child then it doesn't matter which level they are playing at. I have seen players from 1st teams in other leagues who move to a premier league team and can only make the 3rd team there. Does that mean you should have stayed at Chester? It all depends on the opportunities that the child was likely to get. Your kid was playing u11's and u13's at the time you left and hence was being stretched far enough for his age. Would these opportunities to progress continue at CLS CC? If your child was good enough then yes.

Q3 - To help with developing junior cricket in the county could you explain the reason why you decided to move your child? Was it simply the lack of opportunities?[DOUBLEPOST=1378116619][/DOUBLEPOST]

Q1 - The DCB teams now start at Under 12's. The Under 10 and Under 11 teams were scrapped about 2 to 3 years ago.

Q2 - Not sure. They clearly exist at Annfield Plain but did our faces fit at CLS CC? Probably not; therefore talented or not he was always going to leave because CLS CC didnt know how to handle either me or my son. I'm not your ordinary parent.

Q3 - CLS CC was not the club for me or my son. CLS CC needed to realise that my son came as package with my family which included me. I'm told that things have changed since my son left and that the club are now far more welcoming and far more inclusive. Personally I wasnt going to stay at a club where you got told nothing and people didnt speak to you. We have no need to stay at a cricket club like that as there are plenty of others. I couldnt care less whether they are world champions there is an obligation to treat people right. Also the bairn was not being stretched. There were under 13 games where he didnt bowl. He was also being batted in positions that it was made clear he did not want to bat. If they arent going to bowl him or bat him in positions where he is more comfortable (child welfare responsibility) then thats fine - we'll go to a club that will bowl him every game and bat him where he wants to bat.

To demonstrate the difference the move has made to my son:

He bowled just 21 overs in 10 games at CLS CC - U11 & U13
He has bowled 41 overs in 14 games at APCC - U11, U13, U15 & Academy

His batting average at CLS CC this season was 16.71. At APCC (note the enhanced standard he is playing at at APCC - at 11 years old) it is 85.5

The stats tell some of the tale and the tale is that he is far happier and content at APCC.

Being the key sentence and I am pleased the move has gone well for you both. Please correct me if I'm wrong as things may have changed but is it not ECB guidance that children can not play senior cricket until they are under 12 and playing county cricket?

I'm sure yer a good lad colonel and in your position I would have moved my young un but ...... You make yourself sound like a nightmare tennis parent.

Good luck at APCC

As long as he is with the county setup then he is eligible to play. That was all checked out.[DOUBLEPOST=1378138287][/DOUBLEPOST]

You can tell from on here I'm a nightmare. I'm under no illusion about that.

Whats interesting is that I have calmed down considerably at APCC. You can draw your own conclusion from that.

Peace man....;)

Apologies, my mistake!
No apologies needed. It was a question I asked as well. As far as I could gather there was only 1 such case previously of an 11 year old lad playing at that standard in recent times that people could remember...a lad from Durham City. You'll know who he is - a great young player.

Also to get back to Greavsie's point; I make no apologies for being a nightmare parent. If my son or daughter has a talent - doesnt matter what it is in - then I'm not going to die wondering whether that potential could have been moulded into reality. I owe that to them. Also it has become abundantly clear that APCC know exactly how to handle both my son and me.

They are a brilliant club who has been very welcoming. Because of this and the people involved I clearly have huge faith in them. I've basically handed over my son to them. They know what to do to get the best out of him. We'll see what happens over the next few years.

Also trying to work out who you are mate as I will know you! The dad of kid with initials JH by any chance, scored a hundred for 3rds the other week?

Possibly!!!!!

Annfield Plain CC. Neil Killeen is there. Also about 9 other former CLS CC lads are there.

Moved the bairn in June - didnt go down well with CLS CC!

I see Mitchell has inherited the superior family genes, tearing through batting line-ups in grade cricket.

He's just a bairn and is great mates with my lad. He will be a real handful when he gets older but as you say he is a cracking player now. His bowling has some 13 year old kids totally bamboozled. All in all though the whole family are just nice people.

They sure are. ;)

Hopefully he sticks with it, his older brother was tearing it up at his age but lost interest. Annfield must have some side coming through now?

The club is chocka with talent/quality. Its becoming magnet for some of the best kids around. Clearly the coaching is massively well respected and the development opportunities are second to none. I'm tempted to say that what they need now is the quantity but its swings and roundabouts because if APCC were chocka with players there wouldnt be the development opportunities for some lads. I'm told that there are one or two more quality lads to come in the winter. The U15 and U18 sides next year in particular should be brilliant.

Don't want to be a pain in the backside here, but them stats (batting average is excellent by the way) can be read two ways. One is that your son has really developed, the other that the standard is not as high (I would guess a bit of both).

I must also defend Chester in question 3. I have always found the other parents, players and coaching staff to be very friendly and welcoming, remember I came from a very clichey club and Chester is by no means that bad.

I do know the lad at Durham and what a player he looks like going on to be!

I'm interested to find out who you think I am after that comment!!

...or the 3rd reason is that the coaching is miles better.

I'll not beat about the bush here, I thought that CLS CC fostered a very poor atmosphere - and the tone was set at the top and by 1 person in particular - and one or two others followed his lead.

However dont look at the parents and players for anything other than positive comments from me as they were brilliant (best of luck to Q, Smithy and the first team at The Oval). A lot of the people who support the club I've known for donkeys years and are salt of the earth. They are the people that the bairn and I will miss.

TBF if I was the only parent to have taken their kid away from CLS CC then you could do a bit of finger pointing at me but when it gets to the 10th kid whose left to go to say AP CC, for the same reasons as me and my lad, then you need to look closer to home at where the problem lies. The lad we're talking about is Sol Bell. A massive talent. His Dad is a really nice bloke too (SAFC fan ;)).

In what way is the coaching different at APCC?
