Washington are taking on a Durham XI at Washington today, 1.30 start.

Perishing up here watching Bill Quay CC academy side at APCC.

Any 1st team games on today?
Hope no games are called off. Punishable by death.

Nah! No one would call a game off on a dry day when they've played the day before, theres been no over night rain and it's dry and bright.

Oh hang on a second[DOUBLEPOST=1378050414][/DOUBLEPOST]

Yes it was a Hetton Lyons Sunday game. My lad played for Annfield Plain CC Academy against Philadelphia Academy a few weeks ago ( he is 11) and he was 12th man today. Next season he will be playing U13, U15 and Academy team cricket for APCC.

Bill Quay won today and their 3rd team are also in that league. Both teams defeated AP CC comfortably but AP CC as an example had 3 under 13s playing for them today and as I say 1 U11 who was 12th man. Most of the others were Under 15s.

AP CC will reap future dividends for this policy I am sure.

Annfield Plain had a good mixture when we played them.

Philli have a kid who opens who looks a topper batsman. Can't remember his name but he is an U15 player; batted for 29 overs against us. Didn't score too many as he blocked the majority but I've no doubt he will be a top player.

Andrew Teasdale?

As for Annfield Plain, I'm not just saying this because my lad is there, but it is clear that they are building a club from the bottom up and I have been very, very impressed with the way they go about things. Very understated. Excellent setup. The quality is there for all too see and its probably the quantity that needs building up but TBH fewer players means more opportunities for the younger lads. I'm convinced that they are one of the county's up and coming cricket clubs.

Remind me who you play for?

Wearmouth.

Can't remember the lads name so nothing rings a bell.

I enjoyed our trip to APCC this season, winning helps obviously but it was a good ground. Wasn't too keen on having to retrieve the ball from the garden of the house after someone clears the massive net there!

The Academy team hasnt done so well this season but thats probably because APCC use it in the spirit it is meant to be used ie for the development of younger players. My lad batted number 9 against Phili, scored 11 not out and the winning runs. Dream come true for him really.

Also the Teas at APCC are, I'm told, magnificent!!

It's how it should be done. We currently use the 3rds as the "transitional" stage from junior to senior cricket. Some of our lads have shone in the 3rds and as a result will be asked to try and help turn the fortunes of the inconsistent 1s and 2s next season. I think plans are afoot to create an academy team at Wearmouth but probably a good few year off.

The more teams with a solid youth set up the better.[DOUBLEPOST=1378076598][/DOUBLEPOST]And yes the teas were great! A "firld first" ground. Which was handy for me to sleep as I'd done nights the night before!

Castle Eden beat Burnmoor in final
Durham City has the best U11 team in the north east by a country mile. I'm told that castle Eden u11s lost to cls cc the other week. The latter lost to durham city by 100runs earlier in the season. I'd be interested to know the score from tonight's game. Make sure castle Eden have a spare ball!

Yes Chester le Street Under 11s beat Castle Eden on Thursday night. Castle Eden 71-7 and Chester le Street 84-3.

Whitburn Under 11s beat Dawdon yesterday in the DCB Play play off final. Eppleton still have to play either Marsden or Easington in the Bowl Cup but they haven't played there Semi Final yet.

It was a great idea doing play offs at the end of the season as some teams who have never won a trophy can win something.
