Getting in early here, but as this is shaping up to be a potential championship showdown, I thought I would get the debate started early.

25.5 points behind with a game in hand but playing away in this game against a side who beat us at the riverside when we looked set for victory. The White Rose lot are favourites for the title but if we can sneak a win in this one, we could be in the box seat.

In terms of team selection, are Thorpe, Onions and Stokes fit and available? Do we bring them back if they are?

Can we do this?

On a personal note, can't believe I have arranged a meeting for Friday when I could have done it Tuesday, took the day off and headed down to Marine Road for the cricket.:(

While we're on the subject, who has the better run-in after this game?
Us: Sussex-H, Derby-A, Notts, H, Sussex-A.
Them: Sussex-A, Middlesex-H, Surrey-A.
 
Fine weather forecast for 4 days so I think we'll bring in Breese and Stokes is certain to be recalled. Looks as if Richardson and Arshead will miss out. There'll be no questionable declaration this time round!

Definitely not biting, but even with a sample size of one, the statisticians might still have the faintest hint of disagreement with that assertion.

And of course we'd be only 9 points behind with a game in hand. I think I said at the time it wasn't worth the gamble, but never mind.
 
It's not a sample size of 1-even just using Riverside games in the sample. It was a positive and sensible declaration-odd's favoured a few Yorky wickets on that 3rd evening, especially afer the rain. Just saying with the importance of forthcoming game both captains will air on the side of caution.

I'd imagine he will play. He played (as a 'substitute') at Trent Bridge last week.

I'm still clinging onto (false) hope that Bunny will defy his doctor and play!

Well anyway, the general feeling amongst quite a few people, including iirc Colly himself, was that it was an overly generous declaration. Anybody else is just too stubborn to admit they are wrong. Surely when thinking of declaring it is right to err on the side of caution, if you are going to err at all?
 
At least in the other 2 defeats the opposition were required to take all 20 of our wickets. At least we didn't outplay the opposition for 3 days on those occasions. To give up the win so easily when neither of those things is true is unforgivable and therefore much more upsetting for me. Especially when they are 25 points ahead of us as a result.

Anyway, meh, as I believe the contemporary saying goes.

I can take a defeat which is dealt in going for the win. I can't take getting hammered by shite teams after playing shite ;). I mean Middlesex. Corey f***ing Collymore :eek:.
 
remaining fixtures favour Yorkshire. barring a thumping Durham win & a dramatic dop in Yorkshire performances, the title is already decided.
 
I have a feeling that that bad decision by Colly early in the year which cost the match will come back and bite Colly and Durham on the bum.
I hope I'm wrong but those points turnaround will if Durham don't win at Scarboro cost the title.
 
Definitely a championship decider and I'd make Durham slight favourites because Root and Ballance are with England and Bresnan is injured, 3 players who would probably be automatic selctions for any county. Massive game for Plunkett who might well think he has quite a lot to prove but the game could hinge on the spinners in both second innings.
 
Ashington play Scarborough in the FA Cup on Saturday so might make a weekend of it and go down on the Friday. Haway Durham!!
