Why do people support Newcastle

........ so fanatically on these forums.

Over the last few weeks there's been no end of people, on here, supporting the theory that Newcastle are much better placed than Sunderland and will 'comfortably' finish above us.

I've tried to find the logic in this, I really have, but I'm still puzzled.

Newcastle, as far as I can see, are in for a long hard battle against relegation like they were last season.
Before I posted this thread I had a rare look at one of their forums to see what they're saying and the doom & gloom makes this place look like a haven of unfettered delirious joy.

They can't score, have players who don't want to play for them, a manager who's talking crazy and a team who've barely managed an attack this season ........... they remind me of the Mags in the play off match when they invaded the pitch, charged around a bit then hit a force field on the half way line

The Mags are saying that they're shite, the players are shite, the manager's shite and the club is shite ......everything is shite.

So why do so many people seem to automatically defend them on here ........... not a criticism of people, everyone's entitled to their opinion, I'm just genuinely baffled.
When Newcastle have been good I've accepted it like when Robson was there and looked capable of winning something.

But I just don't understand why people, Sunderland supporters, believe Newcastle are so much better than Newcastle supporters do.

Only 49,000 there for their first home game of a new season, so that's another myth blown.

49k is more than we get, plus add 3k empty in the away end, 52k. may not have been sold out but still an excellent crowd

I was at the Villa game. Some lads at work support them and offered me a ticket, f***ing loved it

Now that is naughty! No one knew you were there for the laughs?

I did a similar thing here in Barcelona a year when Espanyol got relegated. I was driving past the ground just b4 half time, parked, and bluffed my way in free (doing the lost tourist impression) and stood about 20 yards from the Espanyol fascist ultras. They lost 0-3 to Racing Santander and I stood there smirking and enjoying watching the faces of Franco's grandchildren descend into despondancy.

Thank you, for imparting your incredible knowledge

That isn't the point I'm making is it .......... this is their first home game, of a brand new season, and they always claim the 'faithful' can't all get in.[DOUBLEPOST=1377415230][/DOUBLEPOST]
Stop being a turkey. thats my point
Oh sorry ............ you have a point?

The thousands locked out must have been furious with so many empty seats.

But getting onto the main point, there are just so many pessimists on here it gets ridiculous at times. Some on here only tend to see the positives in our rivals (not just Newcastle) and the negatives in safc.
It is clear to see that Newcastle are in real danger this season of having major struggles but the likes of Sky Sports listing Newcastle as potential challengers for Europe doesn't help. I can't see where they get that from. They are a poor team that are going to struggle this year.

I think their brush with the title, and their flirting with champions league football has had just as much effect on us as it has had on those simpletons up the road. Couple that with how shite we were at the time it's hard for some of our fans to forget, and stop thinking in that bunker mentality. The season they had getting into the Europa league had a horrible familiar feeling to it too.

This season, they're the same steaming pile of shite as they were last year. We've invested, and in the next few weeks we will see the difference.

Possibly right. I got my first season ticket in '92, so they've always, bar a season or two, finished higher than us, qualified for European competitions. I'm sure I'll always hate them, but would I resent them as much if they'd been shit for years.

I remember quite hating Boro a few years ago. Don't even bother looking for their results now.

What was our attendance? Fulham only brought up about 500 fans. West Ham will have had 3k there.

My mate was in away end and said West Ham sold out. Think you need to adjust your figures along with the point you were trying to make.

I just try to be honest. I think they have better players than us.

Although I don't rate their manager, I was still surprised they struggled all last season with the players at their disposal. I thought they massively overperformed the season before last, and massively underperformed last season. The start of the season has shown little to no improvement, so the suggestion is they could well struggle again.

I guess there's more to a team than the individual players on the pitch.

They are in danger of really f***ing up this season. If they lose 1 or 2 key players, and kinnear has to replace them owt could happen :D

Their 1st team isnt owt special and the squad looks weak to me, especially if they get a few injuries. Add pardew and kinnear to that, and rumours of a few unhappy players then they could be right in the shit by xmas

No guesswork - it's a basic fact of football life - eg - watch City this year compared to City under the scarfer.

They have some good players but they don't exactly play as a team. Whether that's Padrew's fault or something wrong with the player's attitudes is another thing. Anyway the 0-3 settled this as I think everybody was stood next to somebody who was shitting themselves when the line ups for the two teams were unveiled that day. Injuries and suspensions will affect them as much as it did last season even without the Europa League games. They are looking very thin on numbers past the starting eleven. They've sold two decent squad players in Simpson and Perch and replaced them with nobody. If they don't bring anybody else in before the transfer window closes, they are likely to be in a relegation battle - especially if they lose Cabaye and don't replace him. It will then be interesting to see what they do in the Janaury window again.

However, it's these occasions when the bastards come out smelling of roses

Well 46k mags isn't bad either, anyhow lets try and match that next game

I've said before Feenix the people who suck upto them probably live in mixed communities where they all hang out the back of each other.

There's a certain few on here give them more praise then their own team. I fuckin hate them but even the "toon" sympathisers should now clearly see they are fuckin dog shit.

Was not critical of their support, pointing out to you West Ham sold out when you suggested that no away tickets sold and that you needed to adjust your figures along with whatever point you are trying to make.

I dont fanatically support them but i wont damn them either, atleast not until we are well ahead of them in the league. I remember at the start of that fluke season they had, i absolutely pummeled them with shit about how good we looked, how bad they are etc etc. I dont think i can take getting bitten in the arse again like that.

Now i wont join in the wankfest until we have well and truly eclipsed them in points and its safe to do so without a slice of humble pie.

Do you think the people who 'big up' Newcastle are people who work or mix with Mags and are scared to criticise them for fear of it biting them in the arse?

I think that is probably the gist of it. They're too scared to mock because they can't handle the abuse themselves. Yet in my experience, a mag will mock if they're 19th as long as we're 20th, even if it's just by goal difference.
