Whats everyones thoughts on the former right arm fast medium bowler for Lancashire and England?

Canny line and length bowler, bit short of international standard. Good one day bowler wasn't he, from memory?

Tidy without threatening - seem to remember him going for less than 2 an over most times but taking very few wickets

8 Tests, 17 wickets at 34. Econ 2.39 BB 4/60 iirc

This is a very coincidental mention of Peter Martin for me. Today whilst listening to TMS they did a feature at Lunch on the Oval Test from 1997 where we bowled the Aussies out for 104 when they were only chasing 124 to win. So upon hearing it I got rather inquisitive, so I went on cricinfo to have a look at the scorecard and one of my first observations was "Fuck me, we must have been desperate if Peter Martin got in the side!"

Was that what you did too?!

He was the first bowler I noticed who used to swing if miles AFTER it had passed the batsman --- a useless but very talented knack.

The only time I ever saw him play was in that test, the thing that sticks in the mind is he was the only England bowler not to take a wicket in the match. Tuffers got 11, Caddick 8 and even Devon Malcolm took one. Probably one of my favourite ever tests.

I was just thinking randomly of him as i think he bowled something stupid like 40 overs for only 28 runs in a test before
