Anyone Play For Marsden CC?

It seems some supporters get a bit raucous.

Used to play there for a lot of years. Started my career there, played for over 10 years, had been around the club before I started playing, as a toddler my step dad played there. All in all around 20 years of family connections before I left. Had some great times, some not so good times but will always be thankful to them.

However, there are some things that have left a sour taste in so many mouths due to the way the club has been ran. There are others on this board who have played for them in the past and will back me up vociferously but knowing Margaret personally and how much she has given to the club over the years, the way the club has dealt with the situation from an outsiders point if view has been very poor. Unfortunately the hierarchy seem to have gone about it the wrong way probably not expecting the fall out that has ensued. Hopefully a quick resolution can be sorted as the longer it goes on the more bad press and the further reputational damage the club will receive.

Just reiterating what AC has said - the club has lost the plot. It used to be a well run, friendly club but over the last 10 years or so they have really pushed the junior section - and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that.
The downside, however, is that it's introduced over zealous nobodies to the club who have managed to get into position's of power and they are now flexing there muscles.

The committee man quoted in the above article should remember some of his misdemeanours on a cricket ground

1) giving the 'shaking a salt cellar' gesture, to the opposition as they sarcastically applauded him as he trooped off (he was out earlier on and didn't walk). Again, nothing wrong with that in my book, but it's a bit hypocritical when he criticises others behaviour.
2) dangling his ample appendage over the top of a Sunday Sun while the Gateshead Fell pro was reading it ....it must have been like the Loch Ness monster rearing up at him !

Played against them in the dim and distant past in the Coast League. My brother and I both remembered the lady doing the teas when we saw it on the box.

Have they? Marsden's junior teams are by and large pretty poor arent they?

I didn't say that they were any good, just that they are organised as a club and putting teams out at all age groups.

I know the U18s have won their league in the past, so that's not 'pretty poor'.

From what I've heard and what she said to kids them she deserves to be suspended.

Maybe you've heard right or maybe just heard the marsden propaganda - the truth will reveal all, if it ever gets an airing !

I never heard first hand so your right there.

Marsden Under 11s are through to the DCB Bowl cup semi final and play Easington on Sunday. Anyone know what they are like?

Regardless of the rights or wrongs just wonder if Marsden CC committee have the right to ban anyone entering the ground-it's a council owned public park.

Not anymore mate, they've had the 99 year lease on it solely in their name now for a few years, hence all the enhancements to the pavilion, new nets etc. But I agree it would be interesting what slant any council would give on situation if similar occurred at other council owned grounds...
