Warne and cook

Warne doesn't seem impressed with cooks captaincy, had a few pops over the series

Sour grapes or fair enough

fair enough at times for me, he is pretty traditional in terms of approach and outlook.....safe if you know what I mean, doesn't seem to be into risk taking as much as say Clarke

Some of it is fair enough but Warne would have you attacking to the extreme almost all of the time in contrast to Cook's over negative approach.

My problem with Cook's captaincy is that it's all very rigid and "programmed" - you might as well have a computer out there making the decisions. For example, like Warne was saying before, as soon as Clarke came in he should have given the ball to Broad but that would have been against "the plan" so he didn't.

Just a case of different approaches. Warne was happy to make controversial/attacking decisions to win the game and entertain the crowd as we saw when he was at Hampshire. Cook on the other hand is very conservative.

Not that keen on Cook as a captain but then there's nobody else who'd do it at present really.

Root was seriously under bowled in this series for me. Even at OT when nothing was working Cook persisted with his three seamers and Swann.

Cook is growing into the role and has series wins against Australia and India under his belt already.

As much as I like listening to Warne, he should cut Cook some slack IMO.

Vindicated by results, he is the most successful England captain in a generation. We know a shit captain when we see one - Gower or Flintoff anyone?

he's a good captain but i don't think he's a great captain... like others say the team have a plan and he sticks to it. i think clarke or mccallum have shown that they're a better 'on field' captain, but results count. he's achieved a great deal and i hope it continues. i think his strongest test will be down here in the coming series. good luck to him.

Exactly, results count and Cook has got the better of both. Ask any Aussie what they think of Clarke's captaincy. There are several ways to manage a team - in work as in cricket - the only right way is the one that produces results with the staff available.

Agreed,
there are several methods of his captaincy that I disagree with but if it keeps delivering success I cannot be overly critical of him.

Cook might not be perfect but I honestly cant think of anyone better. Not overly enamoured with Broad as T20 captain.

The Programmer being Andy Flower.

Cook does appear a little negative occasionally but his decision to take off Swann who was bowling well without looking dangerous and replace hm with Bresnan was quite brilliant and, within 4 balls, totally vindicated as Warner edged a beauty. The cmbination of Bres and Broad was, from then on, just too good for the Aussies, even if the conditions were helpful.
