Day 1 I saw both touts 'anyone needs tickets' and a few who I would guess genuinely had a spare and would pass on for face value or less. Probably enough so you could haggle a decent price to be honest.
I didn't have a ticket on Thursday and googled 'ashes spare tickets, day 1, durham' Within the hour I'd bought one for £60 and the fella met me outside entrance 5 at 10-15
I think you'll be fine - get there for 10ish.
