On H&S. A few years ago i was taking kids to School (infants) and one little girl had a cut finger nothing really but it was bleeding. I put a plaster on her finger and she was chuffed to bits. Got hauled in front of the head later told i wasnt allowed!
Now that may be right under H&S or it may have been him being a dick but thats the culture that has been created. :-(

People can get HIV (among other things) through infected blood transfusions. Is that not a disease?

True, but you could argue that HIV is a disease of the body, whereas alcoholism is a disease of the mind, it's the secondary effects of alcoholism such as liver damage that are physical.

Alcoholism is considered a disease, mind. There's an organic basis for the disease (it isn't just acquired socially, like some mental disorders) and recognised medical treatments for it.

The global warming/climate change debate over the last 20 years or so declaring that it is the human races fault is a myth generated by governments to extract more tax out of you.

Begs the question, what the hell are you supposed to do instead? Does the school have someone who is first aid trained, if not it's the head who needs a severe bollocking?

Just because there are medical treatments available it doesn't make it a disease.

Calling it as such removes personal accountability.

I think the non-use of plasters came in a few years ago. Children could press water soaked cotton wool onto the wound. I actually wrote and gave permission for my children to be allowed plasters if required.

This.

Which is the singlemost damaging thing in today's culture - people not willing to take responsibility for their actions.

Well i thought it was better to put a plaster on than have it bleeding and her sobbing? Never heard of Anaphylactic Shock? He just said i wasnt supposed to do it and a proper first aider had to. I just thought he was a dick!

TBH her mam should have done it but some parents dont give a shit (that could be my unpopular opinion  )

The first Ordinary Boys album is one of the best albums of the 00s.

Jersey Girl is nowhere near being Kevin Smith's worst film.

The problem is not health and safety (as a mare of mine once said, the alternative is disease and danger). The problem is that too many of the people in charge in this country are petty minded morons who don't know how to apply common sense when they're setting up rules and procedures.

The problem has stemmed from people being careless and realising that they are able to sue their employer / an organisation often as a consequence of their stupidity or carelessness. H&S would not be as bad if it was not for individuals being unable to carry out their job in a safe and considerate manner. I do accept however that this claim culture has pushed H&S too far.
