Their opening few are very rarely do that though. He's by far an away their most talented player, should ideally be at 4 or stop being a coward and face the new ball, he's obviously good enough to do so.

I agree with 4 due to the weakness of the lineup, but anything higher would be suicidal.

He averaged 106 last year batting at number 5  Hardly the performance of a coward.

Needs to grow a set and do what he's done today in my opinion. Move to 4 permanently.

He will do but you are being way to harsh,as I said he averaged over a hundred last year at number 5,including a few 200s and one 300.

It would be irresponsible not to give it ago again.

Fair enough when he had Hussey and Ponting etc, but when your other options are Phil Hughes, Kawaja and Cowans, I think he needs to step up to 4 for good.

First time Ozzy has been ahead in a game at close of play. Jimmy off line but the rest bowled OK I thought, shame that Ozzy up their game.

Bloody boiling as well.

5 even.

He's batted predominantly at 5 when he should really be at 3 or 4.

He's batted at 3 only 2 times in his career and at 4 only 20 times. Fuck knows where you got your stats from. He's batted at 5 a huge 64 times in 95 matches.
I thought you were on about this series marra, and think about who batted at number 3 most of his test career. A certain ricky ponting was hardly going to bat there ahead of him.

Last year clarke averaged over 100 in 11 tests batting at 4/5 so hardly hid himself after pontings retirement from test cricket.

More importantly, how was the grog?

Was in A stand so didn't get round to the champagne tent, I'll research that tomorrow for ya.

Thwaites and some long distance lager at the main bar under A Stand, ale tent selling Wainwrights behind that, another beer tent further along. No queues anywhere, £4.20 a pint.

Not bad, all in all.

Would take a draw out of this now. They should get at least 450, probably 500+ and they have a good bowling attack that has taken early wickets in each of our four innings so far.

Looks a belter of a pitch mind, and England these days often come back well after a bad day. We'll need to tomorrow.

Canny, should see a game on Sunday now

Nah that's what I'm saying now Ponting has moved on. Clarke should bat no lower than 4 for me

Glad you're not captain then. I'm certain Cook will still be targeting a win. Couple of early wickets could be a game changer.

So f***ing hot today mind was in a stand but fucked off to the shaded bit under the point

They've done a class job with the renovation like

Am I missing something about the whole DRS thing?

Why don't they just use every bit of technology available for every decision going?

It was introduced to eliminate daft human errors but if that's the case it has already fucked up royally in this series and a million times before.

What exactly would be the problem with taking it out of the players hands (which it should be anyway, that isn't their job) and just letting the 3 umpires decide important bits for themselves with the aid of technology?

Why doesn't the third umpire use Snicko?

It takes 5/10 minutes for them to synchronise the pictures with the sound accurately so it would delay the game too much. To be honest I don't think there's a great deal wrong with the technology just the way it's being used to come to a decision is baffling at times.

You're not wrong there, played 5 a side at 6 and I don't think I stopped sweating until 8.30. I could barely move after half an hour.

I went to the Durham t20 game at Old Trafford and I was impressed by the ground. It felt a lot more enclosed than it did previously, I imagine it holds in the noise and will create a better atmosphere. Looking forward to tomorrow, just looked at the forecast and there's no rain on there until 3 so fingers crossed there'll only be some sharp showers and nothing that will eat too much time out of the day. God knows England could do with it being humid, there've been some low scores there this season when it's humid and there's cloud cover. Big scores when it's scorching hot.
