[the ashes] test 3. Manchester

Cant understand Tremlett ahead of Onions, especially with a test on his home track coming up.

Tremlett has taken 19 wickets at 39.63, Onions 35 at 23.20. What more does he have to do?!

I suspect the selection of Tremlett is to do with the Old Trafford wicket, you seem to do best with the bounce for spinners and tall quicks who get the ball to bounce (Harmison and Panesar have done well at Old Trafford recently).

Harsh on Onions but I think it's a horses for courses selection and at least he'll be able to play for Durham.

Its the right call. I think GO has been really unfortunate in the last 2 tests but OT is a pitch that suits pace, bounce and spin and the selections reflect that. Monty has an unbelievable record at OT also.

Everyone is assuming the pitch will be as was.

The square has been turned 90 degrees and there's been five new stands built since the last Tests. The pitch is a bit of an unknown (And this season it certainly hasn't been the rock hard turner that it used to be).....

Looks like the selectors didn't like the way Onions carried the drinks.

This is an odd squad. Taylor covering KP is fair enough, but even OT's reputation as a turner doesn't require 2 spinners. Swann is good enough to bowl sides out on his own. I never rated Monty anyway. Tremlett in the squad is a risk. He's so injury prone that rumour is he once injured himself opening the envelope that told him he was playing in a previous test.

Dropping Onions is bad enough but Finn as well is madness. The selectors are in danger of going down the old route of chopping and changing. If it ain't broke don't try to fix it.

The 3rd test, Old Trafford

I'm not happy with the thread title. Not happy at all. There's brackets, there's gaps. It's a mish mash.

I've built a better one ^

Assume they want onions and Finn to get match practice and tremlett is just making up the numbers.

That's how I read the situation too.

I can't understand people getting upset over the England team selection, they get it right pretty much every time.

I don't care what the pitch is, Tremlett for Onions is a joke. Pretty gutted for him cos I thought he had a decent chance of making the Durham test.

Just cos he's your mate man ;-)

Tremlett is a quality bowler with a great test record selected on a pitch expected to have pace and bounce. Unlike GO he also doesn't have the luxury of bowling on the most bowler friendly home pitch in the country to boost his stats. Also I wouldn't say that him not being selected for OT means he definitely wont be selected for Durham.

Agreed. Lack of capital letters and bad punctuation make it one of the poorer efforts. Further proof that the cricket board is going downhill......

The Ashes: 3rd Test, Manchester.

^^ Better.
