The Colonel

Dont want to say too much but I'm starting to get the impression that PC has too much of an influence at DCCC considering he is a player only and has only just come back to the club. A few stories circulating but its looking to me as though Benkenstein is having his nose pushed out at DCCC which a lot of members are not overly impressed with.

If this continues I have no doubt that Benks will end up on a managerial pathway with another club eg Middlesex, Surrey etc. and its a decision that IMHO DCCC will come to regret.

The Board need to get a grip and decide who is in charge....

If PDc is in charge it appears to be working out just fine ...

:-)
Ultimately my impression is that Dale would like to do more to help the club in this difficult period but he is effectively being prevented from doing so.

based on what
Based on one or two things that I'm not going to post on a public message board.

either way I'm getting the distinct impression that Benks wont be around too much longer. not his choice.....

Disgraceful if you ask me.

Nah, just the passage of time really. Neither can you have two leaders in a club

Benks has always been somewhat reluctant in that role anyway

So you're just blowing hot air? You're happy to inform us you think something is up and want us to believe you're privvy to inside information, yet you'll not tell us exactly what it is because its a public message board.......

If its so disgraceful, just spill. It's not like the Internet police will come after you. You're hardly Julian Assange.

Nothing wrong with collingwood taking control particularly as he is durhams longest serving and most successful player.

Over the past few years during Colly's time away as an England player, I have heard a lot of anti-Colly stuff from a minority of members. They felt that when he was playing for England he got too big for his boots and didn't want to know the club that "made him".

The same ones said when he retired from England that he would just give up completely. they were wrong, although they still moaned suggesting he was playing Durham off against Derbyshire who at the time were interested in offering him a lucrative deal.

I personally find it hard to believe Colly feels this way about Benks. The team are going well under him. The only ones who might want Benks out are the bean counters who are looking at ways of reducing the wage bill. Whatever happens they would still have to pay off his contract.

Mentioned this on the Durham Finances threads, you just have to read Benks latest column in the Echo to see he wanted to help out this season and have his operation later. Must be plenty going on in the background at Durham, just for a change.

I'd imagine this basically boils down to benks wanting to sign an extended player then coaching contract....but there's no cash in the pot to do so

I don't think so i agree with the Colonel lots going on here in the background. To be honest as players for both of them time is probably up.
They probably both quite fancy Cooks job and the power struggle is on.
I like both but there is only going to be room for one at the club.

Collingwood is the man

Look at the way the team has transformed since he returned

As much as I respect DB, PC knowledge is invaluable, multiple Ashes winner, 20 20 winning captain, still has friends in high places

I would choose him over most

If there was plenty money in the club there would be no trouble of any nature

I think you have hit the nail on the head. Good post.

First one that agreed with you ;-)

I agree there's only one job with 2 candidates. But I think Colly is the right one, as with the majority I suspect

Collingwood has never been in the frame. The members at Durham were assuming that Benkenstein was the choice and it was a formality.
