Cricketing pet hates.

Also hate the average banter when someone takes the pull on, gets through too early and it hits flush on the toe and someone pipes up with "put some chalk on it".

Hate bowlers with no ball problems.

Hate local batsmen who insist on playing reverse sweeps/ramps when they clearly can't play them.

Hate home teams who devour all of the tea before the away team are even in the tea room (my own team are guilty of this)

Hate people who "sledge" who aren't actually any good themselves. Actually I hate "sledging" in general, in particular when there is no real need for it. Fair enough if you think you can get one over on a good player and maybe talk him out but don't waste your time on average players like me!

Hate outfields that haven't been cut for a fortnight

Hate players who can clearly play a better standard but seem to get a kick out of bullying players at a lower level

Hate people not staying for a pint after a game

Hate mobile phones in the dressing room

Hate dismissed batsmen showering before the end of the game

Hate the batting team watching from inside the changing rooms rather than outside supporting their team mates

Hate the batting team sitting in the bar watching the footie when the seasons cross over

Hate players who don't say thank you to tea ladies and umpires (even if they have disagreed with a decision)

f***ing hell! is there anything you do like in Cricket.

Agree with a couple of points - the tea one - the home team should ALWAYS wait for the away team and umps to get their teas. I think its just good manners imo.

Just don't think it sends a great message to the lads waiting to bat who are grafting their nuts off to try and win/save a game, when other lads are there splashing the old spice on and doing their hair.

Always been a believer that you are all in it together and the lads who are out should be sat watching the game supporting their team mates.

The teams I have played in we have always liked a quick pint together in the changing rooms after the game to talk about how it went and to wind down a bit. Easier to do this if all of the lads wait until the end.

Not sure on the rules, had four years off the game and just came back in this year but not sure how it has changed. been getting on my tits though.

Batsmen who have no concept whatsoever of the run rate
People not updating the scoreboard until screamed at
People who fuck off without going for a beer
Over competitive Australians
Wankers who play the Primary Club tie game. Great charity, but don't be a stuck up wanker to get a free pint
People who make zero effort in the field
Umpires who don't know the rules. If you don't know, don't offer to umpire
Anyone who wears sweatbands
Those who don't walk
 
I also hate when middle order batsmen go in and end up facing the quick opening bowler returning for his 2nd spell. They make a swift 20 or 30 and come off telling the opener who is black and blue from the fast 1st spell that he isn't even that quick.

I hate captains who think they can bat a bit and sneak themselves up the order until there is a quick bowler in town and all of a sudden they slide to number 7.

This is a pain, dont understand what the appeal of this other than to boast about how many runs you've scored.


I think i'm guilty of the "Catch it!" thing, but honestly think this is more of an instinctive reaction thing rather than an offer of advice to catch it.
 
Batsmen at the non strikers end who stand so far away from the stumps that they actually block your view of the striker from mid-on. Then when you politely ask them to stand closer in seem mystified. Some of them have no self awareness.
 
Batsmen running right down the middle of the track and not being pulled for it; particularly when bowlers get warned for not leaving the track in their follow through.

There was a first for me the other week.

Playing at Seaham Harbour and their pro got warned for running on the wicket whilst batting. Happened a few more times and ended with the whole team being issued with a warning and every time it happened again would be a 5 run penalty. Anyway they never did it again but it was weird the umpires having to catch every new batsman on the way in to let them know.

Think they are clamping down on bowlers following through too. Pascall at Boldon apparently got taken out of the attack the other week for it.

I've been warned twice for running on the wicket while on my follow through. I understand why they do it, but it's hardly consistent when batsmen go right down the middle!

Thought of another one:

People who automatically hoy the ball back to the keeper from wherever they're fielding. Most of the time it makes sense - if your close in- to keep hold o the ball an give it back to the bowler!
 
Things that piss me off are :-

Cheats - from either side. Cricket is a gentlemen's game and should be played that way.

Non-tryer's - hate when people can't be arsed to give it their all either batting or fielding, mainly fielding.

The above probably stem from me being an old fart with values that I was brought up in but, there it is, I'm too old to change now!

No it doesnt - it keeps both the fielder, batsman and keeper on their toes.

Say you're fielding at cover, the ball gets defended out to you at a slow pace. At this junction it makes no sense to risk over throws when the ball is effectively dead while in your hands.
