Jennings out early on, time for a sign of intent.
And in walks Smith.....
170 lead by lunch
Give up man. You could make a fortune playing poker against the pro-reckless-declaration brigade.Colly himself went on record after the game to say he got the timing of the declaration wrong, he felt his hands were tied by the weather and was also caught out by the flatness of the pitch.
So, if even he admits the timing was wrong how come others think it was right?

But we were saying it before the event. We lose bad declaration, we win great declaration. Kind of thing my dad always says after the event. If only cricket was so simple![]()

I'm not sure how setting the largest 4th innings total to win a game at the Riverside EVER could be described as reckless mind.
Riverside is only 18 years old so that's not massively impressive. Records are also there to be broken. But anyway, justifying decisions on those grounds is daft, you should play the game on the day. It was obvious it was very gettable, with a minimal chance of bowling them out.I'm not sure how setting the largest 4th innings total to win a game at the Riverside EVER could be described as reckless mind.

Incidentally, do you know what the highest unsuccessful run chase is at the Riverside?

Less than the target Colly set against Yorkshire obviously. I'm afraid the logic that it was obvious it was a very gettable target is beyond me. If it has never been attained before I can't understand how it can be obvious.
No ambition at all from Durham. f***ing joke. Even losing a few wickets pushing the runrate could've seen us 200/6 like we are now, only we'd have been there before Lunch.
