LVCC D1 - Durham v Middlesex

Starts Wednesday. Top of the table clash!! Think there'll be some rain interruptions in this one, perhaps on reflection a draw might not be the worst result.

Seems like it could be very tight at both ends of the table this year. Somerset and Surrey are really struggling but I'd expect them to pick up a few wins before too long. So we just have to guard against complacency

Jennings for Benk and Onions for Buckley I reckon.

You say that about Surrey but for all of the signings they have made over the last 3 seasons, they still look bang average to me somehow, on paper and on the pitch.

Somerset's bowling attack is poor but if their batsmen fire they will be fine.

They seem to have lost some good youngsters and replaced them with over the hill county pros which seems a bit odd (ie, Batty, Solanki & Keedy)

Agree. Solanki and Keedy have always been very good county players, but their decision to sign them (and Jon Lewis), whilst losing players such as Chris Jordan and Hamilton-Brown, seems short-sighted and almost like a success now strategy, strange.

I see Durham have chopped the LMC on their website -

f***ing awful decision that. I think perhaps the growing Twitter traffic is a knock-on effect from people seeking news and updates about the club which doesn't appear on the website. Getting info from DCCC is like getting blood out of a stone it seems.

Plus, Marty does a better job of informing the public about Durham affairs than their official Twitter.

I don't know why they don't just enable the LMC at 10:30 every morning and disable it at 7. Most of the people on there tend to keep each other updated anyway.

Sounds to me like the club are missing Yvette.

Not sure what this new girl was brought in for. Anyone can deal with a twitter account.

Surely anyone can deal with the LMC too.

On another note, I saw article on their website about relocating the members lounge on Friday due to 'a major booking'. What can be so major? On a day when County cricket is being played?? Is it perhaps a wedding? It seems very much that all DCCC are becoming interested in is money. They've treat their members with contempt already this season with the catering debacle. Then they'll be hosting shit concerts on the outfield during the middle of the cricket season. That's before we delve into the clubs lack of ambition in not signing an overseas player.

I'm starting to think the people running the club are a set of f***ing clowns.

Unfortunately, everything the club does at the moment seems to be linked with its lack of money and the need to bring it in in any way possible.

There's just not enough paying supporters coming through the gates for the cricket, so other means of income have to be employed.

If more watched the cricket there wouldn't be a need for weddings, ladies nights and concerts, but it's never going to happen, so we're stuck with Peppa Pig and her mates for the foreseeable future.

Have the numbers dwindled in recent years? Or has it stayed the same? I only ask because it seems the club has gone downhill in recent years with regards to looking after their 'customers' and certainly in money spent on playing staff.

Granted the club has to bring in money, HOWEVER I don't see how having concerts during the season is going to be a good idea. The club exists to play cricket and I hope the people at the top remember that. The Ashes Test is surely going to generate some serious revenue too.

I mentioned on another thread it does not seem to matter what the club do on or off the pitch they can't get coax more people to come to the ground to watch the cricket whether it is week days or weekends.
Sady i don't get there anywhere near as much as i used to or would like to but when i do i see the same faces that have been attending for the past 10/15 years.

It's a difficult market really. I would happily sit at the ground for every day of the County Championship home games but work doesn't permit that. I get down when I can, but its nowhere near as much as I'd like. I think the £15 a day price for non-members is quite steep though and it's unlikely to attract masses of new faces - I appreciate that price is set by the ECB though.

I also genuinely think that T20 has had a very negative effect on County cricket. Overkill springs to mind.

There's a few grounds that charge less than £15 a day, Trent Bridge for instance is only £11 a day.

I didn't know that. Perhaps DCCC should look into something similar then. Especially if it isn't set by the ECB - which I thought it was .

Personally I'd introduce a deal, charging £10 for one day, £18 for two and then £25 for 3 days, allowing you in for the fourth day for free. If only I was the marketing manager

I also think the ECB have a lot to answer for with regards to scheduling. They've totally ruined the Pro40 IMO and as I say the T20 has been flogged for every last penny.

Sorry, my mistake, I've just checked and Trent Bridge is £14 and £11 discounted. But you're right re the Pro40 and T20.

Turning the ground into an international stadium has not helped the expeirence of watching county cricket at the Riverside. I know the club had to do it and i hope it comes off in the long run, but looking purely at watching Durham it was far better before the media centre and the double decker stand where built when you could have a walk around the ground and watch the cricket.

Its all about personal opinions but I think the media centre is fantastic and when I do go to the ground I actually prefer to sit atop the County Durham stand - as near as I can get to being directly behind the bowlers arm. I'm usually on my own up there mind and its usually a bit breezy

Plus, you can still walk quite a fair way around. We just differ in personal tastes I suppose.

Still decent though, I've just had a look on their website too and see its £3 for after Tea. That's ace that. Do Durham offer a Teatime reduction??

Moreover, their Membership prices and packages seem much more reasonable and attractive than ours - which I do still think are cheap mind.

Wood preferred for batting?

If we have hopes of winning the Championship we need to win this as playing Middlesex without Finn and Morgan is as good as time as any to play them. I look through their side and dont see how they have been doing so well.
