It's not looking good for Benks, his shoulder has given up the ghost. I hope we haven't seen the last of his playing days.

You sound a bit dramatic in your OP Harry.

Website just says a shoulder injury. Doesn't mean his shoulder is finished.

News coming from the ground suggests an operation may be the only solution, I sincerely hope I'm wrong as he will a massive miss if it's true.

A bit more news re Benks injury.

Durham have just released a statement saing Benks will undergo an op on Wednesday to repair a badly torn rotor cuff tendon and that he may be available near the end of the season.

That's terrible news for Durham.

"Rotator cuff" that should read.

Jennings to come into the middle order?

They dont seem to want to play Richardson.

I'd give Jennings a go at 3 and move Stokes, Colly and Mustard up one with Borthwick at 7 followed by 4 seamers if Stokes isn't fit to bowl, 3 seamers if he is with Breese in as second spinner. I think Buckley is struggling with an injury of his own.

That is sickening news about Benks. It looks like a long road back even for a warrior like Dale to comeback from an injury like this at 39.
It also leaves a huge hole in the middle order for the rest of the season. Jennings is the obvious replacement but will they re-jig the order. I think the top three have done well in the last two championship matches and would be a shame to change it again, so i hope Jennings would be comfortable batting at no4.

A couple more injuries now would leave a massive hole in the CC side. I can understand why they want to play the strongest team in all comps, but I can't help but wonder if it would make sense to rest some of the CC team for one day games and play the lads who are in form for the seconds.

I agree we are effectively down to a squad of 17 for the rest of the season if you rule out Benks and Harmy for the rest of the season.
On the positive side it does give more opportunities to the development contracted players and academy players to play first team cricket providing they are playing well for the seconds. Buckleys performance against Surrey must have given the youngsters at the club huge encouragement to believe they can do it as well if they get their chance.

Benks was at Eppleton yesterday watching his Son play for Durham City under 11s. He still hasn't had the operation!!!

His op was put back because of a virus/infection he has. Bad news for both him and Durham, although he is up on the balcony with the lads at present v Derbyshire.

He contracted MRSA and will have his operation next week having been on antibiotics.

He still has one year left on his contract so presumably will be back next year.
