[BBC] Miners' Di Canio protest 'will only end with Sunderland campaign support'

this has amazed me like, its a total shitstorm thrown at safc, what the fuck has anyone's political views got to do with football? has it happened at any other club? ( i never do politics, im 50, never voted, but i was under the impression that one mans political view was his own business, ignorance is bliss at times )

Do miners even exist anymore? I thought they closed all the pits up years ago. Clearly nothing better to do than cause drama with Di Canio who has clearly said he doesn't want anything to do with it

They were unsustainable and bringing the country to its knees everytime they went on strike.

Had the NE focused on education and knowledge based industries we wouldn't be in the state we are currently in. These people are parasites, they have nothing better to do with their time and that makes them dangerous.

They have in effect got the club in a corner now, if the club do not support them they will label them as fascist sympathisers.

What right do they have to demand we do anything. They are taking the piss now

While the banner / history is important, we can't be held to ransom by this prick who doesn't even represent the views of a lot of ex miners based on what i've heard and read on here

They are trying to raise the profile of themselves and get a bit free publicity, he can fuck off

I'd rather the club give him the banner back and do something to work with ex miners and their family's directly who are the people who matter in all of this

Sounds good to me.

An Antis fascist Campaign would be a bit like a campaign to eradicate the tigers roaming Hamsterley Forest - a bit pointless because there aren't any;)

Is there anything we can do as a group of supporters to get across the true sense of opinion, majority of opinions I'm reading on here is that the DMA are a billion miles out of touch with most Sunderland supporters and are a minority view.

How do we get that message too them?

You would expect the likes of the Echo and the Northern Echo to have a balanced approach. The Northern Echo has however the Sunderland Echo seems to be giving more credit to the anti Sunderland stance.

This is very interesting as Hopper also threw out my mate's father for asking why he was taking £50000 a year from a union that had no working collieries.

I wonder how many more DMA members have been expelled from the union?

This Hopper character is coming across as a vile despicable human being.

I'm an ex-Wearmouth miner as was my dad. We were both supported the union for a full year on strike in 84-85 & my dad even kept paying his union subs long after retiring.

Last year my dad got the union to win a case for him & he was awarded a couple of grand for some pit related ailment (dodgy knees or summat, not white finger). On winning his case the N.U.M. asked if they could have about 10% of my dad's 'winnings'. My dad said "no" arguing that he had paid his union subs for donkeys years, even after retiring, & at the end of the day he was paying his subs for the union to do their jobs anyway, namely to fight his case.

Hopper's response - he kicked my 72 year old dad out of the union after all the subs my dad had paid into the union for decades.

Fuck the N.U.M. They are money grabbing pigs.

SAFC is a football club and not a political football.

WTF!

i feel sorry for your fatha, that kind of betrayal is far worse than any perceived threat these spunk trumpets paranoia would have us believe.

how and why these bullyboys have acted like this for a man who must have gave them decades of support is beyond comprehension

a dma counter protest against against its leadership ; expossing its own brand of fascism... after all how many members of ethnic minorities where allowed to be employed in the durham coal fields??

There are no active miners in Durham ffs!!

Thanks to the the appaling leadership of the miners it let Thatcher smash our communities so I wouldnt trust them to organise a car boot sale in all honesty. Bunch of idiots.

We are a football club and shouldnt be giving this lot any opportunities to stir shite.

I don't live in Sunderland but when I visit I have not seen any right wing activity and other than a few loons protesting about the mosque not heard of any right wing activity. Am I right in thinking this? What is clear is that all the publicity that the DMA have given to this will ensure that right wing extremists will focus attention on Sunderland and demonstrate against the left wing policies of the DMA.

I an fairly neutral when it comes to politics so have no axe to grind but it seems like the DMA want such demonstrations so that they can say "I told you so" it may also strengthen their hand and in their minds legitimise their movement. They may not be doing this consciously but it is natural subconscious behaviour.

I also thought that the DMA existed to look after it's members and retired members. As has been said many of these are elderly, living on benefits which are being cut and have health issues. Surely their energy should be focussed on those issues.

Just my thoughts from the outside.

despite the media furore, the labour council disapproval, an MP's utterances, the numerous sports personalities interviews and radio programmes dedicated to the nonsense, these silly little Stalins will think that it is only their stance that has brought Paolo's denial.
Seriously tell them to fuck off and get a shipbuilders flag in there. Haway the Flags can knock one up

their self delusion is only matched by their utter irrelevance

This. Last of the dinosaurs. We will all be much better off when there extinct.

not the miners within the dma ... but their leaders, if any member of the dma are reading this, your organisation is embarressing itself through one mans vendetta

Fuckin hell man - this well out of order, infact bordering on illegal, as it sounds like this was never a part of any contractual agreement from the outset. f***ing parasites, this behaviour should be publicized mate, to show these money grabbing self absorbed gangsters for what they are. Cant believe they get away with bullying Colliery Pensioners to line their own pockets, WTF.

That's what I was referring to mate. All my family are ex miners and they think its embarrassing the way these people are behaving.

I'm a 4th generation miner!! so what!

Who's fathers and grandfathers fought in the war, what about mine who was a shipbuilder? and my other grandfather was a builder? They both went to fight in Germany.

Yes, we are all proud at what our ancestors did for this country during the 2 world wars, committed to protecting this country, and lots lost thier lives for this cause, and we do honour them and are grateful, but come on, this is 2013 and were talking about football, FOOTBALL.

I have kids, who will have kids, so we should insist the BBC join a anti peodophile campaign or we won't pay our TV licence?

We aren't living in dangerous times at all. No far-right or far-left regime could bring down Capitalism, not in our lifetimes. Hysterical wankers.

Enjoying your 15 minutes Hopper, you fat bastard?

It's all starting to look rather pathetic and you know what no fucker else gives a fuck outside of the area

The trick is to get them sorted with girlfriends.

Does anyone have a sister going spare, because once they have had a shag they will probably calm down.

Strange how the banner says 'Come let us reason together'
Yet the old commy Hopper wants to do all his talking to the press.

Just my thoughts from the outside.

My brother lives in Millfield and says that there was a recent protest against the Mosque involving 100 police and road blocks.

He sounded concerned.
