New signings at clubs for 2013

Lots of clubs are planning for next season especially those in NEPL2 so any news of new signings add them to this thread.

Wasahington have now signed Ashley Thorpe and Paul Hindmarch for next season what about others?
 

hylton have signed alan mustard back on as 1st team skipper. more signings to follow hopefully.
 
So thats two players that CLS has lost. Must be shaking their first team up a bit. Thats no bad thing.

Muss was playing on chesters 2's for part of last season so he won't be a big loss . Never really succeeded at cls

Ash Thorpe a major coupe for washy cracking all round cricketer

Will be interesting to see how he does there as it's not the easiest place to bat - the pitch is slow and low and I would think it will be a lot different to what he's been used to batting on 90% of the time. It's a pitch where anyone who bowls a decent length is going to be hard to get away.

I remember their previous pro coming in with a huge number of runs elsewhere behind him and (on weight of runs) hasn't lived up to the hype - I'm sure in no small part to the pitches he has played on against those he's used to.

Would expect Thorpe to adapt a lot better like - top player.

Ash is tremendous one of the best players ever in the Prem. I think the only player I would take in front of him would be mark simmington.

You might be right about the pitch at Hylton not suiting Muss . He can get trapped back when his confidence is low and he doesn't get at you. Which can happen with Al , he is a little tempramental.

I was referring to the Washington pro batting at Washington mate - Hylton's pitch is as good as there is to bat on in the Coast League, and I would imagine now in the Durham League.

Aye Andy he's being playing for Ashbrooke last year. Was at Whitburn after being let go by Durham after coming over from Oz.

Great bat and amazing bowler decent bloke too.

Out of favour as a middle-order batsman in the following season, Thorpe played just two further first-class matches in 2003, scoring just four runs in his final first-class innings.
Having left Chester-le-Street and Durham County Cricket Club at the end of 2003, Thorpe was a club professional for Whitburn Cricket Club until 2008, when he joined North East Division One team Sunderland, for whom he still plays as of 2011, and is currently captain.
Thorpe is also a respected coach, specialising in batting, and has been used by Durham to develop their young cricketers.

Was always one of the best in the coast league, Its no Ashbrook though, mind its a good ten years since i was at Hylton.

Never been to Washington but whatever it its like Ash will find the productive shots to play and weigh in as usual.

I was talking to Thorpe the other week. Took the bairn over to the Newcastle Cricket Centre for a couple of one to ones with Melvyn Betts. Ashley was there.

There had been rumours that someone from Durham was going to Washington and people were saying that it was Neil Killeen, which was obviously rubbish.

Not saying much - most teams played what? 12 or 13 games last season? Don't think anyone had a paticularly good year. I wasn't denying he's a good player just saying that the hype around him when he signed (I even heard 2,000 runs mentioned!) wasn't lived up to. Says more about the hype than it does about him.

Thorpe is clearly a different class of player altogether though. Would expect him to walk NEPL2 top run scorer.

I guess it depends on what you expect from a Pro.

I don't know much, but if I was involved in a Club I would want the Club Pro to not only perform on the pitch, but to improve the quality of the senior players around him in how they approach a game; approach their preperation; improve their performances out in the middle; increase the profile of the Club overall; lend support to the Junior Section and improve the way they learn, practice and play; and where possible use his contacts and long-term strategic thinking to bring in top quality players that will continue to drive the Club forward.

From what I see and hear from Washington - from Seniors all the way down to Juniors - I think the Pro there can doff his cap and think "job well done".

Maybe some Clubs have different expectations.

Like most of the top larkers he is just so hard to bowl to , he scores steadily even when you are bowling well, and if you bowl poorly he will murder you just moderately enough to keep you on :lol:

From outside any club the Pro will be judged on runs scored or wickets taken.
Darren was a superb pro for Washington last season raising the club profile, Helping to secure sponsorship and helping the club prepare for the step up next season.
