Plenty others have contributed. I expect you will be attending his benefit events?
the problem Harmison has got is that since 2009 he has been basically useless for durham.I think Harmison is entitled to a benefit as much as the next person.
Although we know he's been a "waste of space" in the last year or two, it doesn't take away from the fact he's had a very very good career for Durham & England.
I do understand that will course uproar on here.
Id have no problem going too some benefit games for harmison if he did the right thing and retired now. Everyone can see he's finished he's just hanging round for the money even if it's doing his body no good

Other than 1 game against Warwickshire 2 seasons ago he hasnt been fit, cant seemingly be arsed to play, is never with the lads after the game in austins, has bowled a million and 1 wides, seems to have shit stirred particularly where Ben was concerned and frankly he is finished.
however Durham CCC has contributed to the issue themselves by rather ridiculously giving him a 4 year contract.
I can honestly say tha other than the games where he has played for the first team I have never seen him at the ground.
He is the invisible man. TBH I get the distinct impression that the rest of the players cant really be arsed with him.
Harmy is getting the blame for the board's mistake like.
We're gonna offer you a 4 year deal.
Ah, no, I'll turn it down as I'll be knackered after 1. Never gonna happen was it
That said I do think 'benefit year' is maybe a bit rich, and he needs to tread carefully really. He's had 3 benefit years getting a good salary for not much game time
The board are to blame for offering him a 4 year but there is much more to it as explained in the post by The Colonel. Anyone who buys into his "I care about Durham" drivel is simply a mug. An article on the Durham website suggesting he still has a lot of support from members is also rubbish.

I was lucky enough to have a membership for three seasons, 2007/2008/2009. (before a silly little thing called work made it not worth while)
We won the Championship twice in that time and Harmison was absolutely brilliant.
His service to Durham deserves a benefit year in my opinion.
You go on about Collingwood, lets not forget he refused to play a game for Durham (2009 I think v Lancashire the one when Flintoff played) and instead chose to play golf in Scotland with Andrew Strauss.
There's nothing more to it as regards offering him the contract
He didn't write it himself
I don't forget all that but do I just think it's poor he's getting all this benefit rubbish when the club done absolutely nothing for MDV.
I questioned Collingwood a few times on here with regards to "if he comes back, will he be arsed". Turns out he's giving it a good go.
The very same Steve Harmison who bad mouthed the club in the media about his brother getting booted out and the very same Steve Harmison who was claiming to be injured on 150k a year, yet was hosting his old golf days at Slaley Hall
He's not interested in Durham, he hasn't been interested in Durham for a long time now and it's little wonder very few people I've spoken to this year at the games seem interested in playing any part in his benefit game. A lot of people thought it was just some sort of joke when it was rumoured earlier in the year.
I very much doubt he'll be getting a game next season with Collingwood as captain. He'll be lucky to play for the 2nd XI.
He's achieved some good things with Durham, nobody can dispute that but so has Phil Mustard, Callum Thorp, Gareth Breese, MDV, Neil Killeen (still at the games and still providing a lot of support/services to the younger players) etc. Absolutely disgraceful the lack of recognition Phil Mustard got from the club this week for his record appearances, same with Benks last year, it was a token mention but nothing more.
He should do the decent thing and retire if he cared about Durham.
I've said the club need their arse kicking for the 4 year contract (said that many times, only last week I said heads should roll for the salary breach), but the drivel Harmison comes out with pisses me off and a lot of other people off.
He won't get a penny out of me, he's had enough these last few years. I'd imagine whatever benefit events he has up here in the region (if any), will all be celebrity type functions as I very much doubt the general public will support it.
I'd attend a benefit match for some of the other players but not Harmison.
You used to hate Collingwood
hate? The most over-used, overated word in the English language. People go on like fannies when they use that word.
I said on here I didn't want him in the Durham team if he was just going to go through the motions because he has nowt else better to do (which I felt he was doing near the end of his England career), because he no longer had his England contract.
To his credit he's knuckled down, played well and is mixing very well with everyone connected to the club (players, management, members). For example he attends the Q&A sessions (yes I know he's captain but even during our shit run, he attended & answered every question honestly), he never refuses an autograph (rarely happens in cricket), will always answer questions honestly, and on Thursday he handed out some shirts to some young fans (it's well known he doesn't do this often as he donates them to charity).
A lot of people questioned this about Collingwood when it was expected he was due back and it didn't please everyone when he was putting T20 (India, which eventually broke down) ahead of the start of the Durham season, which I felt was a perfectly valid thing to question.
Collingwood has played a big part for Durham recently, justified and deserved his selection and captaincy.
He's thought very highly of at the club & I'm very happy he's at the club and I said on here the other day I fully expect his captaincy reign to bring us a trophy.
Everything is geared towards Collingwood taking over in the future and I really hope he does alongside Benks.
I know Paul Collingwood and played against him when he was a young Shotley Bridge cricketer. He has always been a hugely dedicated cricketer both internationally and for Durham and of course with central contracts there is always difficult club v country situations.
You underplay how critical you were of him - you laboured your above criticisms of him over a long period of time, questioned his ability as a cricketer and literally had no time for him at all. Great bloke, excellent cricketer and i'm glad at last the penny has dropped with you.
I've got plenty time for him. Hate is a ridiculous word to use, & I strongly disagree with what you have said.
I questioned his spot in the England test side as I thought near the end he was struggling massively. Still have no regrets of having that opinion, it was a quick decline in form.
Overall an average of just over 40 was superb and winning the T20 World Cup was an excellent achievement (I do think he still had a lot to offer at T20 level). 206 in Australia and his century in India were top class efforts.
I think some people just defended him for the sake of it because he was a local lad. If it was anyone else, opinions would have been so much different, the very same people slagging off the England cricket team this summer.
If he had a benefit match tomorrow, I'd gladly attend.
So basically you were right when you used to call him shit. He was only rated because he was local, didnt give Durham the time of day yet now hes great and Harmisons a twat.
I'm sorry but this big f***ing love in you have with Collingwood seems a little bit shallow now.
Who said I was right? I purely said it was an opinion, and I've said I still think he had a lot to offer in the T20 format for England.
Wouldn't say I have a love in with Collingwood. I'll leave that to the likes of MDV & Benks.
I fully admit I was critical of Collingwood near the end of his test career, just like a lot on here were critical most of the summer towards the England cricket team and have gone on absolutely ridiculous towards Ravi Bopara.
It's all about opinions.
Shallow or not, I really couldn't care less to be honest. Everyone is entitled to an opinion, by all means disagree but using words such as "hate" and "shallow" is tedious and quite poor.
