:lol::lol: he's batting well in this innings and kept it going to get us over 200 to help us claim a crucial batting point. Currently 3rd top scorer in our innings with 23 not out off 50 balls

Keep up the good work Borthwick

Yep- in the context of the game thats a crucial knock from Borthwick putting on 55 with the tail in a low scoring game. Important player for Durham.

Looks like we will need a spinner on this batsmens' paradise.

I love 'spoke to soon' posts

 got to laugh.

After about 20 overs, the Worcester over rate was -3 and it ended that way at the close of play. They only started hurrying up once they got a sniff when Colly went. The ball has been changed twice during our innings as well.

Crucial effort by Borthwick and the lower order. When Colly was out, we were 160/7, to get to 215/9 is a decent effort on a wicket that is proving very difficult to score runs on.

Have you even bothrered to read what I've said on this thread? Again he is playing as a batsman at number 8.

You're now laughing at someone who has suggested playing a spinner is a bit of a waste when 19 wickets have fell on day 1 of a LVCC game and every one of them has been to a seamer. Hilarious, eh?

Its not a waste. You're the only person I know who shares this view. Borthwick again yesterday crucial to the team with a good early catch and currently 3rd top scorer with the bat which got an unlikely batting point. We are the best bowling side in the league, sometimes he won't have to bowl as we are too good. When called upon to bowl, he's not letting anyooe down as proven on saturday. He's played a big part in the change of results at the club. He's in for the rest of the season on merit, so you may as well accept it and appreciate he does a good job for durham.

Ive read every word of what you have said and think it is absolute bollocks. Borthwick is in the team as a modern day 3 dimensional cricketer. Hes got bottle in difficult situations, hes an excellent slip fielder, best outfielder we have, great arm. He helped win the last game with his bowling, helping to win this one with his batting and catching.

And yes I did think it was funny when you had a pop at the selection of Borthwick and he then turned a game in the balance to one strongly in our favour. I would have saw the funny side if it was me - you seem an angry young man these days.

And borthwick moves onto 31 making him 2nd top scorer in our innings

I can see both sides of the arguement here. Borthwick should be in the team as a spinner however conditions and performances of others have dictated that he hasn't bowled as many overs as he needs to at this stage of his career. Other than bowling SB for the sake of it (and therefore disrupting the flow of in form seamers) there is nothing the captains can do. The flip side is, given our poor batting performances this season, his capable batting ability has shown and he has earned his spot in the team on this alone. If he was batting 3 and not bowling I'd be in the camp that we should be playing a specialist bat there, but since he's batting 8 there's no harm done.

A spinner scoring runs has nothing to do with a spinner playing on a seam bowler's paradise.

How many teams in world cricket pick someone that isn't going to bowl due to conditions and bat him 8? Not sure you're going to find many/any. I'm not sure why you're preaching about his skills when I've said he's a cracking player but it is pointless playing someone week in week out if all they're going to do is bat 8. Again, as I've said, we could move him up the order and make use of him. If he isn't going to bowl then stop wasting him batting with the tail. Use him or lose him.

Hes not a spinner hes a cricketer. He bowls spin, he bats, he fields brilliantly. Its his overall contribution to the team that he is selected for as he has already shown in this match. Its important also to cover all eventualities when selecting a team, while it may not be likely it is certainly possible that the opposition could score well and variation in bowling is needed. I dont think Egland did the right thing for example going into the Headingly test macth without a spin option.

I would agree though that while I think Durham are right to select him they arent doing him any favours in developing his bowling by producing wickets like they do. If I was Borthwick I wouldnt be particularly happy with that.

And then the sun comes out, the pitch drys and the oppo dig in at 150/0, there's a requirement for someone to bowl 20+ overs of spin with an old ball.....

It's almost as if the Gods read this board.

To knock me down a peg or two I wouldnt have selected Thorp for this match

I wouldnt have either. I would have kept Wood in and was disappointed when he wasnt selected.

Borthwick got crucial wickets. Smith's catch off Scott to get shot of Moeen Ali was as good as it gets. Scott's Father, George, was sitting just along for me and was well pleased.

2 wickets for our fast bowlers early today and a catch for borthwick. Once again proving his worth in the field

3rd wicket down and another catch for borthwick

Canny effort with the bat here as well, proving his worth yet again.

100 partnership with Colly and Borthwick here which has seen us collect 2 further batting points.

Borthwick up to 39 at the moment.

I think you have proved your point - time to show a bit of class.
