Must admit sat at the rain interval at 4pm on day 2 of the Middlesex game, I thought it was all over.

Amazing recovery so far
 
The funny thing is that I felt we would beat Surrey even before the game stared.

Once we'd got that first win under our belt, and the way we beat Aus A, it felt like a huge cloud had lifted and the good times were back.

Still work to do of course, but I'm confident we can get at least two more wins from the last four games and beat the drop.
 
for a little bit of further good news - the players who have been crucial to our recovery have been the youngsters - stoneman with the bat, rushworth, stokes, wood & borthwick with the ball.

with jennings getting a few matches towards the end of the season i think this bodes well for next year

That innings by Thorp and Borthwick after the rain interval has been a major turning point vs Middlesex.

Colly & Benks have had some crucial innings as well

Whole team effort.
 
Mathematically it's still not over, but barring an extraordinary set of results it's fair to say it's safety for Durham this season.

A lot of supporters, including many who post on here gave up during the T/20 break and said we were relegated. It's a good job the players didn't feel the same way or we would have been right in the shite now. The players playing in the side now have all stood up and played their part in turning our season around, I'm hoping some of those posters who gave up are man, or woman, enough to stand up and say they were wrong.

You know who you are, and so do the rest of us, the predictions of doom and gloom are forever preserved in the realms of cyberspace. :lol::lol::lol:
 
I'd given up after day one of the Middlesex game.

Glad I was proved wrong.

Thinks are looking good under Colly.

The members lounge during the rain interval of day 2 of Middlesex was a very gloomy place, relegation was mentioned so much in that 30 minute delay. We just looked dead and buried, Thorp and Borthwick suddenly changed that, massive turning point.

That was the low point for me too. Expected a quick clatter of wickets after the rain break and relegation was more or less a certainty. Surprise arrived with Thorp an Borthwick, then the great start to their innings. Got folk believing again and the rest is history.

Delighted for Colly but also for Geoff Cook who has done wonders with this team in the last 7 years and didn't deserve a bottom place finish in the CC. Onwards and upwards hopefully!
 
Middlesex rain break for me too, thought there was no way back. It's remarkable how much has changed since then. We look like a team challenging for the title, not fighting relegation. Marty's comments on the BBC last night were spot on.

Anyone know how many points we need to mathematically assure safety?!

If both Lancs and Worcs win their remaining 3 games taking the maximum 24 points per game in the process they will end up on 159 points. We are currently on 127 so another 33 points is required.

Obviously that is not going to happen and as we are currently 40 points ahead of the relegation zone I think we can class ourselves as safe. If we beat Lancs next week they will no longer be able to catch us.
