had it confirmed that we deff have no umpires tomorrow.

murton and easington have ganged up together and fucked the umpires off.

we have to umpire our own games tomorrow in both 1st and 2nd div.

the league is a joke now. we should have backed the umpires and suspended the lad in question straight away.

the umpires do a cracking job.

What a load of rubbish. The umpires job is to write a report if they deem it necessary - its then for the exec to hear the evidence from both sides and decide what action to take. Umpires are human and it's not unheard of for them to misinterpret something that's said to them or - on occasion - have a personal grudge against a player or club.

You're suggesting that an umpires report should lead to an automatic ban; which is a nonsense.

The umpires are out of order here - the exec did their job by hearing the case in question and delivering a verdict. The umpires have no right to question that; it's not their role.

After hearing talk about a possible strike yesterday I've just received a message from our secretary confirming that all Durham Coast League Umpires are going on strike tomorrow.

Still don't know what's happening with tomorrows fixtures. Unsure if we will umpire ourselves, find Umpires from other leagues or the games will be postponed.

Bit damp at your place yesterday?

Not really, no.

Not really, no.

Why no game then? To be honest it was asked as a rhetorical question as the reports I've had we're that it was soaking - I am however out of the country at the moment and had assumed that a few games would have fallen victim to the weather.

What i observed was 9 of your lads wanting to play, Your vice-captain not wanting to play and your captain couldn't make it until later so the decision was left with the vice.

No umpires to clarify the start time of the game etc so nowt materialised.

I can't wait for the next episode, Return of the Leg Bye.

Hmmm. Just as well neither team had anything to play for then, or it may have been a controversial disagreement. Don't think it's true to say that nine of our lot wanted to play though - have spoken to a few since and (rightly or wrongly) they were all pretty pissed off that they'd been made to travel when there was "no chance" of getting a game on.

It's been a shit summer, the sooner it's over the better. Whole season's been a farce.

As far as no chance of a game washington played on the track after Bill Quay left so it was playable. A game would have been better than a practice!

Suppose the problem came from the umpires strike in that it was left entirely to the interpretation of the captains. Suspect the "problem" as far as there was one would have been the outfield; as in my experience that is the area of the field that collects water at WCC (particularly in front of the hut). I would be amazed if it was playable and BQ refused to play, and can't think of a reason that they wouldn't have done.

However, debating this on the SMB isn't going to help anyone so no need for us to round in circles. Just another bad weekend in a bad summer.

There was a damp area towards the top of the square where the ball maybe could have plugged but it was cleared as best as possible.

The main frustration was that our lads had been down since 8am grafting to get the game ahead, yet once BQ arrived, very very few (bar Berwick Hall) wanted the game to go ahead.

So whats happening with the points ? Noticed Sunday Sun didnt allocate any , have Washington appealed to the league? Will the umpires be back next week or is this an on-running thing?
