He couldn't prove he didn't send them. I think he did. The knob.

and yet jonathon trott can celebrate with the saffas and give michael vaughan shit at lords...

double standards for KP and i have never and will never understand why people have it in for him.

Because here in England we don't like anybody with a touch of arrogance, flair, somebody who will speak there mind. KP isn't a yes man, he will do what suits him and why not? It's a short life being a professional cricketer, why not make as much out of it as possible?!

Media also have a lot to answer for.

but at the same time he has always done what the team have asked of him, be that captaining the side until he was shambollically [sp?] treated and sacked, playing middle order, opening the batting, or scoring runs quickly.

i couldnt see a trott agreeing to open in the sitatution we were in in the last match, not when it might interfere with his precious average

so he wanted a bit of a break from playing one form or cricket, big f***ing deal? strauss was rested from the tour to pakistan or bangladesh or wherever it f***ing was and hes the captain no outcry then

I dont have it in for him, I think he's a great player. However, he is contracted to play for England in all forms. He's decided that he doesnt want to any longer. The ECB are within their rights to say he can't pick and choose. Then slagging off your team mates to the opposition isn't on. If you have a problem with someone/something then you sort it in the dressing room.

I think he's burned his bridges as England are severely weakened as a result. Shame but we move on.

In full agreement.

No problems with Strauss picking and choosing though

The press always like to bring down a hero - Botham, Flintoff, KP.

Botham would hardly have played a test if he had to work with this England set-up.

and most certainly this.

No problems with Strauss picking and choosing though

He shouldn't have had the choice. However, playing devils advocate; Strauss wouldn't have been in Bangladesh for the ODIs so he wasn't picking and choosing what format he wanted to play but was simply 'rested' for the tour. Pietersen has come out and said he no longer wants to play in the shorter format, while presumably been paid for the remainder of this current central contract.

No-one, captain or not, should be picking what or who they want to play.

If it prolongs his test career what's the problem? So many on here get a bee in their bonnet about "slap and tickle cricket" which is massively tedious. Yet are on their high horse because Pieterson doesn't want to represent England in the shorter format.

Double, treble and quadruple standards.

he no longer wanted to play 50 over games only. the contract ends in a month iirc, would have been a handful of games ffs :lol:

Also 20/20 wasn't it?

It's a moot point now.

He's been dropped, England won't beat SA without him and he'll have the ECB bent over a barrel and will get whatever contract he wants.

The problem wasn't Pietersen not wanting to play rounders. As someone who never watches the pyjama game it made no difference whether he 'retired' from it or not, I did feel it was an unprofessional thing to do, but while he was keeping test cricket at the top of his priority list, it didn't really matter.

The problem has come when that lack of professionalism has now spread to test matches, trying to pick and choose which tests he plays in for the sake of a meaningless rounders tournament was bad, but the allegations of slagging off his team mates and coaching staff to opposing players during a match goes way beyond what can easily be overlooked. The ECB had to take a stand against that kind of behaviour, as much to try and stop it happening again as to back up the rest of the team who act with professionalism and integrity.

Even if he did its hardly a big deal is it? Most of them crap on using Twitter in their spare time anyway, a text is private and hardly a press release. He is one of the best batsman in the game, and he could have Flowers wife bent over the table in the long room for me and still get picked. The Saffers will be pissing themselves at the ECB.

It's a great counter argument. However it didn't stop the ECB allowing Strauss to do what he wants. Seems like they're just making an example as he's the highest profile player we have. Silly really in my humble.

Bairstow and Taylor should be playing alongside KP not instead of him.

If he had been left out the last test we would have lost the series by now. But then again this is about moral high ground now and not results.

Yes it is. Where do you draw the line? Pietersen wants to do as he pleases. One minute stating that he wants to not play in all formats, then saying he wants to pick and choose test matches, then sending text messages abusing captain and coach. We are always a better team with him playing but you ccant just let him do as he pleases. If he demanded to pick the side or quit i'm sure some would day that was acceptable because 'he's our best player and its all about results'.
