Obviously a massive talent but why do we pick him time and time again when we are turning out on green seamers constantly and he's never getting a bowl?

I know he can bat a bit but surely playing Richardson or a specialist batsman would make more sense? As it stands he's going to be a specialist number 8.

Only 4 players have a higher batting average than Borthwick at the moment. His knock in the last LVCC game with Thorp helped us win the game and he got a 50 down at Sussex. He's in the team on merit at the moment.

It's very harsh for Richardson, he's a good cricketer and contributed well vs Middlesex. He'll be off soon if he has any ambitions.

So he's being picked to be a specialist number 8 on his batting merit? Makes sense.

He's also a very good fielder as displayed again today with 2 catches. He's more than deserving of a place in the team at the moment. 3 overs, 2 maidens, 1 run, 1 wicket vs Middlesex.

He's 1 player who had a tough time pre T20 and has responded well since. Useful player to have at the moment.

4 wickets down at Worcester as well

It is August 7th and he is being picked as a spinner. He's bowled about 60 LVCC overs all season.

He is clearly a talent but at the moment he is being picked to bat at 8 and field.

He either needs to start getting a few overs, be moved up the order or dropped. A specialist number 8 batsman is no use to anyone.

Winning is more important than giving Borthwick some overs "just for the sake of it" - Why mess around with the bowling attack? We are 2nd top scorers for bowling points. He's useful to have as proven in the last over of day 1 vs Middlesex (wicket with his first ball) and day 2 vs Middlesex with the bat.

He's scoring runs with the bat and is playing very well for Durham at the moment with the bat, in the field and when asked to bowl as proven in the last couple of month. Before the T20 he seemed a lost lad.

Crazy to even consider dropping someone who is scoring runs in a team that is struggling to score runs. Average of over 20 runs at the moment, decent enough.

He's bowled 43 overs so far in the LVCC.

See how the batting goes this game, Muchall has been dropped which is the correct decision.

Don't agree with dropping one of our form players at the moment though. Far more worrying issues than Scott Borthwick at the club at the moment

He's bowled 43 over all season, is batting at 8 and averages just over 20. First name on the team sheet then.

I rate him as a cricketer but it just seems a massive waste of a space at the moment.

Disagree with that. Would have agreed pre T20 but not at the moment.

It's a credit to the fast bowlers that Borthwick isn't needed much at the moment, but when asked to bowl, he's doing a very good job for us. Blackwell IF in the squad wouldn't be used much at the moment in the LVCC as a bowler, because the others are just too good and are doing the business.

Luckily our seamers are incredible meaning he doesn't get much of a bowl. Still if a side gets away we need the spinner in there. Who is to say it won't dry out as the game goes on when he can come into the game.

Also, it may not be a really valid reason but if we don't play him he will leave as he needs to be playing 1st team cricket given his age and potential.

Agree, he's very useful to have. The pitch is very unpredictable at the moment, so it's essential to have a spin bowler in the team.

From Borthwicks point of view he should move - his career can only stall playing in a weak team that favour seamer friendly tracks. Its also no wonder promising batsmen fail to develop playing week in week out at the Riverside although there is a counter argument for that one.

It's not like we need to find space in the team for another seamer. He's got some useful runs this season and is there if we need to call up on him. He's still young for a spinner, especially a leggy and each game he plays, whether he bowls 4 overs or 40 can only help his experience.

Who mentioned another seamer? We can't score any runs and would be better off playing a better batsman than Borthwick as he isn't getting a bowl. Especially at home.

He's one of our better batsman at present.

Cook won't play Richardson, he said in the Pro40 he preferred Myburgh due to batting and spin option. The same will apply for Borthwick.

The pitch is poor as proven all season, something like 5 batting points all season on it.

I think Borthwick can be massive for us. There's plenty of time left in his career. He's in the team for his batting and fielding on merit this season too. Its unfortunate he hasn't bowled a great deal of overs this season but the pitches just haven't helped his cause - especially at home - with seam generally being on top in most games. Mainly down to the shite weather and that has generally been the case at most other counties too.

He has bowled well when given the chance but a glance at the averages of our seamers will tell you that they have done the job when asked to do so. Spinners usually prosper when the ball is older and when the pitch is worn - again though, it has been very rare that the ball has got more than 60 overs old this season and even more of a rarity that we've had a Day 4 pitch to bowl on (which has had in excess of 300 overs on it!).

The club certainly see him in their plans and hopefully he can be patient and bide his time, I'm not sure many other clubs would take a punt on him as their frontline spinner anyway??

Well put, totally agree.

The seamers are doing the business on the home wicket, hence why the average innings score is 154 and only 4 batting points have been made this season at Durham and all 4 points were scored in 1 game.

He had a tough time of things before the T20 break, but since the start of the T20 he's been excellent for Durham.

3 crucial wickets yesterday in a game we won.

Well done Scott Borthwick

Just as well mind as you had him playing as a batsman and he managed about 10 in two innings combined.

of course you forget his innings at Sussex and his match winning innings and partnership vs Middlesex.

Fast bowlers doing the job hence he's not had much of a look in with bowling, yet when called upon he delivered and helped win us the game.

Massive contributions recently in the field, with the bat and bowling.

Excellent

You are going way over the top and refuse to see things anything other than black and white.

128 runs in the last 5 LVCC games and 10 wickets. Now, if you think 25 runs and 2 wickets a game is excellent and that it is worthy of a place in the team then that's your prerogative. We aren't using him correctly or enough to justify his continued inclusion.
