Tried to make as many notes as possible, so excuse me if the notes aren't the best

In attendence were Harker, Cook and Collingwood with Marty Emmerson hosting.

batting condition excuse was mentioned straight away by cook about the home wicket, something like only 4 batting points made all season on the pitch

cook praised the bowlers

batting has been extremley tough

mustard injured and it's "not brilliant news". fluid was drained then it flared up again, swollen badly.

mdv big miss. he was very keen etc at the start of the season. after the game in somerset was when he told cook of his intentions and that he was struggling and had enough (aching muscles). cook was full of praise for him.

keaton jennings and richardson described as excellent in the 2nd XI. One interesting quote after that was "you have to earn your place" in reference to playing in the 1st XI.

Jennings should be playing in the Aus A game along with Blackwell and Myburgh.

It was never planned to play Blackwell in the T20 (Something I mentioned on here and a few disagreed with what I was told by Blackwell himself)

Cook then went onto say Blackwell has had a back injury.

Cook then went onto speak about Harmison and said Harmison wanted to play for Durham, had a good frame of mind but his bowling wasn't consistent and wasn't accurate. Durham are paying part of his wages whilst at Yorkshire.

Collingwood then spoke. "Batting is a concern". "confidence levels aren't as high as they should be"

He doesn't expect the home wicket to get any better in terms of tough batting conditions (he made this in reference for this game)

"we're in a difficult position"

he then went onto praise the bowlers and fielding.

he then went onto mention the rain and pitch moist.

The subject of oversea's player was brought up and Geoff Cook said "likelyhood is an overseas player would struggle in these conditions"

harker then spoke and it seems that the ecb salary cap is the main issue. would love to have ponting/hussey, not sure whether he indicated he had tried to sign them, he wasn't too clear.

harker "prise would be hurt more than financially for relegation". he then indicated it would be more difficult to get sponsors on board if we were relegated.

geoff cook "mark stoneman is looking like a really fine player"

I asked a question querying why Richardson hasnt played CB40 since top scoring down in Wales, and made reference to confidence with the batting etc. Geoff Cook basically said he felt as though Myburgh offers more and that Richardson can count himself unlucky. Collingwood also mentioned he was injured for that game hence why Richardson played. (me personally I didn't agree with what Cook said as I think Richardson should have a place in the team especially after top scoring down in Wales).

It was agreed that some players could be brought in next season but Cook said problem with overseas is that they arent guarenteed for all the season, but I got the impression they will look into that for next season

Hotel got mentioned, awaiting some news on some funding but all going well they could make a start by the end of the season.

Only about 25 people turned up, which is a tad suprising given the amount of criticism the club have recieved this season, perfect chance to ask questions.

Can't think of anything else.

Over & out.

I was a bit confused with the "you have to earn your place" comment to be honest.

A good summary of the Forum

To clarify:

Harker said he had made enquiries about those two along with a few others but the problem was availability.(He said,in answer to a direct question , that Shiv would not be available because it would take too long for him to get a visa)
Cook seemed genuinely surprised at the comment so Harker was either making tongue in cheek remarks or contingency planning.

Colly's view was that the acquisition of a 'name ' player would thwart the chances of any of the budding youngsters, who have earned their chance, that will probably get their opportunity v Aus A.

Must admit I found the "earn your place" comments laughable. For example Muchall has scored 100 runs in 11 innings..... how is that earning your place?

At least Richardson will get a chance now due to Mustard injured but the answer I got to my question about Richardson I felt was a poor answer.

Cook is scared to upset the usual faces, that's one thing I'm pretty much certain about. You simply don't earn your place by failing time and time again with the bat when you're a recognised batsman in the team.

Interesting times ahead no matter what happens from now until the end of the season.

Selectors need to grow a pair and get real and strong.

I tend to agree .It will be interesting to see who plays v Aus A and if they do well does that earn them a place? Cook may yet make a 'bold' move and drop a couple of the poorer batsmen if Richardson and Jennings are given the chance to show up well next week.

With his comments tonight, it's fair to say Stoneman will keep his place. Some reading this may think that now means Smith is at risk which is a fair assumption. The news about Mustard is unfortunate for him, but means Richardson should get a good run in the side now.

As you say it will be interesting to see the Surrey squad selection if someone stands out with the bat against Australia A next week.

The "earn your place" comment was very weak though.

I left the Q & A tonight with a pretty empty feeling about the selection process at the club. I just fail to understand how the same failings we can all see at the games have "earned" their place time and time again in the 1st XI. Clear to me Cook hasn't got the bottle to drop certain players.

Someone who asked a question mentioned the overseas player this season not doing the business in the T20........ to be honest I thought Gibbs was alright for us, it was others around him who were poor.

I was a bit confused with the "you have to earn your place" comment to be honest.

Jennings and Singh have scored more runs in the recent 2nd team game than Muchall has all season. Which makes this comment completely baffling.

Did anyone get any confirmation about whether Jennings was available for the 1st team this season?

He must be as he was sub fielder a couple of times today. Geoff Cook seemed to suggest he was as well tonight. I've mentioned Jennings a lot this season but he keeps scoring runs, surely only a matter of time before he's given a deserved chance.

Then it's absolute madness he's not in the team. He's got 2 double hundreds in the 2nds this season ffs.

As I said I just think the selection process is a major flaw in the season so far. I get the impression Cook is scared to drop the usual faces and I think that even more after tonight.

The failings have absolutely nothing to do with age as I've mentioned and pointed out today that Colly and Benks 2nd and 3rd top scorers with the bat and Thorp continues to take wickets. Colly also took 3 well taken catches today. Benks also fielding very well on the boundary, he covered a lot of grass today, fielded very well.

Q & A sessions are a load of bollocks tbh the same as when Sunderland do them they are a publicity stunt to make the club look better and nee one actually says what they actually want to say in case they drop themselves or the club in it. All that was said in there is classic answers earn your place, giving youngsters the chance etc. seems a funny time to have one any way while we are in the middle of the game

"you have to earn your place"

This is absolutely f***ing laughable, those pushing for a First XI berth, such as Richardson, Jennings, Singh, Harrison and even to an extent Myburgh can really do no more - in my opinion?! Scoring centuries isn't enough I take it? Myburgh scored 50 in his first 2nd XI game, perhaps he needed to score 100 to be selected??

Fuck knows, all I do know is that scoring 100's for the 2's must be better than Muchall's 10's for the 1's.........

Fuck me, 100 runs a season - the new 1000

Fantastic, when and where's that.

Not sure yet will try to get it down at our place. It was meant to be 7th August but with the weather it will be put back. You will be eligible as you will have played 2 league games
