Crashed 234 not out off 190 balls against Lancashire today aswell, Strauss also an unbeaten century, good form to take into the Saffer series.
Ridiculous the way he's going on. It was obvious that he hoped we would get tanked off the convicts so that he would be in a strong position to negotiate a return on his own terms. Seems he's realised that it won't be the selectors coming crawling to him but the other way round.
Personally, I'd like to see us pick him for the tests, purely because they're too important not to, then drop him for the one dayers in the name of "not changing a winning team". Might help teach him he's not bigger than the team.

Pointless....The team will be better with him in it, it will be interesting to see if the ECB follow your train of thought though.

Someone (Andy.SAFC?) made the point that you can almost guarantee the ECB will buckle in September when the central contracts get renewed. The trouble is you then open up a can of worms where all players will pick and choose what format(s) they want to play. I'm firmly in the 'he's made his bed let him lie in it' camp.
I agree, he will improve the team in any format of the game. But the timing of his 'retirement' and subsequent U-turn look to simply be a ruse to get out of the ODIs and T20s against the WIndies and Australia in the hope we would get tanked so that the ECB would come crawling to him with the offer he wanted.
If he's allowed straight back into the ODI team for the games against SA, it sends the message that he can choose when to turn up in any format of the game.
If we pick him for the tests, partly because he kept himself available all the time, and partly because the tests are too important to try and send him a message, then drop him for the limited overs games, we can see how committed he really is to playing the short game for England again. An apology for putting his own interests above those of the team would go a long way to helping him earn his place in the side for the T20 World Cup.

He's just been on SSN whinging about the schedule and how he isn't looked after. Now while I agree the schedule is ridiculous and regularly pointless, I'm not sure why he should be different, the likes of Bresnan, Broad, Swann will have had an even more strenuous schedule and bowling is far harder work on the body.

Maybe if he didn't jet around India every year and underwent less strenuous pre-season training/early season games he wouldn't complain. He won't be as tired standing around in a field than been cramped up on a plane.

I'd be inclined to tell him where to go aswell. He plays no more international cricket than others in the England set-up and it's his choice to travel to India to earn more dollars at the start of every season. If the ECB were to welcome him back in the fold I'd play him in every game possible to show it's their way or no way.

That's a bit dramatic, a mild spat that lasted about a month. It's hardly like he took a dump in Giles Clark's desk drawer. The players that embarked on the South African rebel tours were far more mercenary in their actions. It's a nothing event, and for one I hope he returns to England ODI colours.
