LVCC D1 - Durham v Warwickshire

Not open for further replies.

For all that Harmison has been slagged off on here recently, 2-20 off 8 seems like a good spell of bowling.

He deserves getting slagged off though.

Decent day for Durham today. Chuffed to bits for Rushy, much deserved chance and that should keep him in the first XI.

Stoneman is now on very thin ice.

Jennings & Richardson again hitting runs for the 2ndXI today down at Darlington.

According to Tim Wellock - Harmy wasn't great and his wickets involved more than a slice of fortune, that said I'd take a lucky bowler over a good bowler every time!

I am disappointed that the openers failed AGAIN and it seems we have another bit of rebuilding to do on the morning, however a bit of perspective is needed. We had a lead of 80 on first innings and are effectively 108-2 at the moment. I think we'd all have taken that at 11am. Certainly at Lunch we would have anyway. What was predicted to be a washout ended up a full days play, so hopefully our fortunes are changing.

IMO another 200 tomorrow should be enough for the win, that said I'll be happy at Tea if we've declared with a lead of 350.

ugh this new ultra positive brandon has lost all of his old charm;-)

Good day for durham, not that you would think it with the following clown from live match chat:

raydetmold

we will always let teams back in the game because we will never be positive , leading by 80 , push home the advantage , no dot ball after dot ball till the wickets come , 2 runs an over with a lead like that , crazy

the game has been characterised by a very low scoring rate and when Warwickshire decided to get a move on they went from 52 for 0 to 197 all out.

This is all about application.

rocky got a dreadful decision but his CC form is poor and he looks shot at the minute. Muchall needs a good innings tomorrow and hopefully Harrison can hang about.

the game could we won and lost in the first hour tomorrow unless the batsmen knuckle down. There are usually wickets tumbling in the first hour on any given day at the Riverside but hopefully not tomorrow.

gorgeous weather down there today, that went against every forecast I saw. Its due to rain again tomorrow so if youre going down its shorts and t-shirts...

Our first target in my opinion has to be to get this innings to 200, which wont be easy, and with a lead of 280 we can then see where we are and take it half an hour at a time.

quietly confident, but no more. I've seen numerous teams chase down over 300 at Durham.

We really need MDV back. We might as well start all innings 2 down
I spoke to him at the ground today. No specific date when he will be back. He seemed cheerful enough though.

Rushworth bowled well which cheered his Dad up no end!

you really need to drop it, youre beginning to sound obsessed.

can you not see the irony in your complaining about personal attacks on players whilst you are personally attacking posters?

you sound just as negative as anyone, it is not going to be all flowers and light is it?

as i pointed out, on the dccc v lancs thread you were being as uncomplimentary about the club as anyone

speak to any member at the ground they don't speak highly of the club with regards to the contracts given out to the likes of Harmison & others when players like Gidman were untried and released. The T20 obsession also annoys a lot of people when it's clear we need an overseas player for the LVCC

Plenty positive things about the club as well though.

As previously stated Benks and MDV are as good as two overseas players.

Lets develop some young talent

oh i totally agree. i wonder if people follow them around insulting them for being negative about the club?

iirc the emirates sponsorship deal included them putting money in for players and that it had to be used for t20 players, can hardly blame dccc for that.

frustrating though, that we see youth being given a chance in the bowling department but not in the batting line up where we really need it, gidman, turner, raine, jennings et al

Problem is the club won't give them a chance. Obviously pleasing that Rushworth has got a game, but Richardson & Jennings once again hitting runs for the 2nd XI yesterday & are no where to be seen. Wood and Raine are also promising

and yet borthwick, harrison, rushworth suggest the young bowlers are getting a look in, harrison even coming straight in and taking the new ball, i fail to see why richardson & jennings & wood are not getting a bit of a go, thought we would see them in the pro40, perhaps they will get a go in clown cricket

That's fair enough regarding the T20 money. Plenty good things about the club, very very friendly staff who go out of their way to help you and the same can be said for the players from personal experience.

I just hope that we can stay up and sort things out during the summer.

I'm not saying giving others a chance is an automatic fix but like with the England football team, you've got to get to a point where you give others a chance (younger players). Muchall has had 5 innings so far this season and has hit 50 runs, that isn't good enough and I'm fairly convinced others not getting a chance could do better.

We've got some good lads not getting a game who are performing well for the 2nd XI and I feel as though they need to be considered at some point. I'd love to think MDV/Benks/ will stay at the club to bring on some of these players.

Brathwaite
Raine
Jennings
Richardson
Wood
Rushworth (yes he's in for this game but hardly seen this season)
Harrison (as above with Rushworth, I hope he continues to get chances)

That along with Stokes & Borthwick who are already playing in the 1st XI.

i agree. whilst its not like benks, diva, colly have retired yet there will come a time when we have to replace them and it is entirely likely that diva & benks will go at the same time.

i would feel much more comfortable inserting jennings & raine or richardson or whoever into the lineup if theyve spent the preceeding year or two getting the odd game rather than just chucking them straight in from day one

Muchall already out on 17.

6 innings, 67 runs. Average of just over 11. Terrible

He's certainly making a case for being dropped.

Is it the case that Cook doesn't want to bring the youngsters into the team that's facing a lot of negativity? Other wise I can't understand Muchall's inclusion.
