LVCC D1 - Durham v Lancashire

Well just back from the game today.

Batting this morning between the Smith wicket and lunch was embarrasing. Muchall was struggling to hold his bat, it's about time he was chased, simply not good enough. Benks also out of form.

The wicket of Mustard was embarrasing, 3 not out just after tea he tries to play a sweep shot  - captain of the time playing stupid shots when Stokes needed maximum support.

Fair play to Stokes & Collingwood who batted very well and sensibly.

Lancs were comfortable after the first ball. Harmison went for about 13 off his first over.

Fair few of the "fringe" players were out in the nets this afternoon, would like to think the likes of Richardson, Jennings, Raine & Wood were given a chance in the first team in some capacity.

Frustrating yet again.

If Mustard wasn't captain he'd be in as a wicketkeeper, just wonder how long before he's called up as a batsman.

I hoped 200 was a big enough target, especially after Bunny got a wicket first ball. But unless we get favourable conditions tomorrow we'll lose this.

According to someone who messaged Marty today, Jennings isn't eligible to play for the first team until next year.

Went there today

Stokes was superb, excellent partnership with Collingwood
Harmison woeful, smacked about
Onions looked decent

We'll get beat

Maybe in one dayers. He's been dyer in the LVCC this season. I wonder if he'd be better opening where the pressure isn't on him so much and he can play a one day innings. One things for certain, he's not capable of playing a responsible captains innings at 7/8

A couple of early wickets tomorrow and all the pressure is on Lancs. But we've done well knocking top orders over cheap this season and not being able to finish off the job.

We've got a good enough lead to defend if the bowlers do well but unless Bunny fires I think Lancs will win.

Totally agree with that, if we're going to win this we need Onions to nail a place in the test team.

Got to get a couple of the second XI in if only to demonstrate that there's no complacency or sentimentality in the squad, if you aren't performing, you're out.

What's up with Blackwell? Is he injured or has he been dropped?

Won't make it today but was there most of yesterday . A couple of years ago I'd have been confident of us defending a total as low as 200.

But our bowling attack is nowhere near good enough now. It looks like Onions is going to be missing the next game as well, and probably often this summer, Harmy is no real threat at all now and none of the others seem quite what they were either. It's just as well that going down in cricket is not the financial calamity it is in football.

I've got an awful feeling that these threads next year will start LVCC D2 :-(

I'd give us about a 50/1 chance, which means we'll lose this one. Which also means we MUST win on Wednesday.

4 down, come on, they will be shutting up shop soon for the draw, keep winkling away.

Harmison to win this for Durham.
Going to lose it more like, another couple of overs like that and it's game over.

Looking like Onions hard work has been undone by the constant bowling of no balls.

5 down, hopefully that will slow their runrate down and get out of this with a draw.

6 down Prince gone, that should secure the draw, good job after the first innings calamity.
