Goal line technology

Don't want it personally but will be interesting to see how it goes...

can i have Mark Hughes in the sweep for which manager is going to be the first to say the technology got it wrong?

Wait till there is a goal scored from a corner or throw that was found not to be out, then the calls will come for it to be implemented there to

Hopefully not but could be the first step on a slippery slope

The game needs updating mate, has done for years.

Each manager should get a referal to the 4th official also. One each half.

Time to let go of the past imo and start bringing the game into the 21st century

I sort of agree but football officiating is still a lot based on opinion and interpretation of things and not fact and it would not stop players, managers and fans twisting

Agreed....What happened to the discretion of the referee? (tin hat at the ready!)

The referee has no discretion whether to award a goal or not. That is a black and white decision with no grey areas that he gets either right or wrong. Either it is or isn't over the line. He has discretion over what is or isn't a foul as there are grey areas and what exactly constitutes a booking on the day.

wooo hooo.

At long last some super doopa technology to sort out a problem that happens about once a season.

I look forward to the results of the system since there is bound to be an incident similar to the 1966 World Cup Final goal.

we've been told many times now that referees have no discretion, are you saying that they referee the same incidents differently?

There are still a hell of a lot of decisions that are supposed to be based on fact though and too often on the big one's the referees get it wrong.

Not because they are biased (that's more on the interpretation), shit, slow or stupid but because it is physically impossible for them to get it right often enough.

Give them help (and not just technology).

We'll soon realise how little this occurs* and what a waste of time it is.

More officials (on the post) allowed to make decisions, unlike their use in the Europa League, is the answer. They should be able to see every goal-line decision and every foul/dive from players running towards them (instead of away from the ref) etc.

*We could probably all list the dozen or so in the last 20 years, over thousands of games.

How is the referee's discretion relevant to the fact of whether or not the ball is over the line? He can still disallow it for a foul or imagined offside.

Goal line technology will not mean the end to incorrect decisions by officials in relation to offside, of which there are many more than goal line incidents in every season.
Been saying this for years, but nobody listens. Again, the fact of whether the player is beyond the last defender can be established by camera, whether he is interfering with play is left to the ref's discretion.

Then of course what happens when a corner is given/not given when the ball didn't/did go over the line, and a goal is scored/not scored as a result?

Lets apply this logic to every area of life. You have two problems, a big one and a small one. You find a solution to the small one. Do you usually just say "this won't solve all my problems, so I'll not bother"?
