I'm a bit tight when it comes to spending money on cricket gear but it looks like I need a new bat. How much do you have to pay to ensure its something decent - I don't want to get a £70 one if it's a false economy.

There's a lad selling Adidas Incurza Elites online for £180 (for a 2lb8) or £190 (for a 2lb10). Includes delivery and professionally oiled and knocked in whatever that means. Is that a good deal and will you tell the difference in the pick up between the two weights? It's loads more than I'd normally pay but if it lasts 5 years I suppose it's a good deal.

Any help appreciated.
 

If you dont want to spend a lot of cash have a word with tonka as he's got some bats to sell. Some really decent looking ones as well.

I personally wouldnt buy one online - every bat feels different when you pick it up. Also ignore anything that says knocked in - you should ALWAYS do at least a couple of hours of your own knocking in.

Ask Gav were he bought his Tom, cost him 50 quid I think, it was from some factory in India,
Looks nice and feels nice. If you prep it properly then it will last a good few seasons,
Saying that, with your classic forward defence and push through the covers, you won't be abusing it that much, might last 25 seasons;-)

Looks like I might not need to spend daft money anyway.
 
Have a look at the 'Charlie French' website
Bought two bats from them (all bats hand made) one for my son and one for me at xmas time and they are really nice good quality bats and not too expensive.
I would be very wary of buying a bat from the likes of e-bay etc.... if you are looking to spend good money.
 
Dont waste the best part of £200 on a bat mate.

Get yersel to Just Sport and pick a few up, hit a ball up and down and when one feels good get it bought. I generally pay £80-£100 (dont listen to the lads trying to flog them). Yes the £200 bats are a better quality of wood but not so much as to warrant paying an extra ton.

Also unless you are opening up against a new ball, against decent pace on a regular basis, dont pay too much attention to knocking it in. Get one of those plastic covers for about a fiver and stick it on the face. Saves having to whack oil on it and holds it together moving forward. Medium pace bowlers, even with a new ball arent going to do much damage, if any.

People worry far too much about expensive bats.
 
Best place around is Just Sport in Newcastle. The shop is never tidy but has the best selection of bats in the region. You can get some good bargins as well.
 
Never, ever buy one online. How can you? A bat is purely personal preference. Go to JustSport in town or that shop in Houghton.
