Striker
Really is superb. Early wickets giving us early inroads and is just bowling a superb spell to Jayawardene and Mathews with the old ball beating the bat a number of times and getting Jayawardene missed at slip by Strauss.

Just about to post about the same thing, he's been class. Beefy even said best in the world at the moment.

Where's Golden Boy Broad gone anyway? Bloody useless 'm aware he's injured, but did fuck all first test

Broad is quality and will probably end up Englands biggest wicket taker of all time - it doesnt have to be one or the other.

Anderson has done ever so well, certainly proved me wrong.

However, two posers for the forum....

why did it take him half his international career to hit his straps (he is nearing 30)

Steyn has been ranked one in the world for a good few years now. Its hugely disrespectful to say Jimmy is the best because clearly Steyn is better and proves it whenever he plays, hence why he is number one and by some way according to the ranking points

Best in the world at the moment. He was quality vs India (as was Broad btw, probably the pick of them). Are South Africa playing right now?

pretty simple really,
Duncan Fletcher stressed the need for 90mph bowlers, and urged him to bowl quicker, then after a bad back injury they forced him to change his action which meant he lost the art of swing and took another year to get back to his original action.
Easily the 3rd best bowler in the world behind Steyn and Ajmal
Oh and he cut down his pace for accuracy and focused on reverse swing

Injuries took their toll when he was in his mid-20's, and he had his action messed about with during this period as well. Not to forget he was competing with the likes of Harmison, Jones, Flintoff and Hoggard at this time also.

Only when he's been given an extended run in the side and learnt his role within a bowling unit has he started to flourish. He's been one of the best quickies in the world for a good two years now, it's just taken you this long to realise it.

No arguments that Steyn is the world's best, however.

Yes, he really is a top class bowler now.

Always had doubters and said to be a one trick pony.

He has come on in a big way and can now find wickets in all conditions.

... could do with another one here like!

He isnt the best in the world. As another poster said behind Ajmal and Steyn I wouldnt disagree

I'm not claiming he is, but he claimed 6 wickets in one innings in 'difficult' conditions. Ajmal and Steyn are obviously better. He's in the form of his life arguably.

Dont disagree.

Swann showed how easy it is to get near top of the rankings, now showing how hard it is to stay there.

Steyn deserves respect for staying at the top for some time now

Who knows? - certainly the Jimmy Anderson pre 2009 wasnt a world class bowler but hes worked so hard on his action and wrist position which allows him to bowl much more consistently. Basically it took Anderson 4 years of stop, start intrnational cricket to start doing what Steyn did more or less from from the outset. Steyn deserves his number one position absolutely but Jimmy is a great bowler now and if nothing else we still have a realy good bunch of quicks.

Golden Boy?

I dont rate Broad either. Dont know if im biased against his eton boy arrogance though. The way he wastes a review everytime he gets out, worra ****.

Dale steyn would disagree with that, both brilliant on their day like

When he was doing shite last year they stuck by him, couldn't buy a wicket. They then crazily appointed him captain, he seems selfish to me and not sure if he's the right choice. Tbf, he has gradually turned it around

Wow ;-)

He isn't as good as Steyn. Steyn has been the best fast bowler of the last 5-7 years at least.

Why did it take him so long? I would argue it was because he started so well and so young without and county grounding, went very quickly from Lancashire leagues to England. And whilst he had talent, he didnt know how to work out better batsmen. He has learnt that now, and looks top class.

Similar to Broad in a way, he looks a better bowler than ever before for a similar reason. I was wrong about him
