Just gone to his highest ever test score against Sri Lanka. 203 Not Out now and looking very good.

SL will need to produce something special to come back into this now.

The most underrated cricketer of all time

12,000 runs at 57
270 wickets at 32

He is dull to watch at times but averages up there with sachin, Lara, ponting etc. and bowls!

hardly underrated though is he. Most people with half a brain cell appreciate a guy with 10k test runs and nigh on 300 test wickets

Alastair Cook is under rated. 17 tests 100s at 25 is Tendulkar/Bradman esque

yeah i'd agree he's not really underrated, would get in most world XI sides and ranks up there as one of the all time great all rounders of recent times

I think he is underrated. of course people know he is a quality player. but doesn't get loads and loads of credit, partly because he is not brilliant to watch

Agreed.

People only tend to mention Kallis in passing when discussing the very best. Players like Imran Khan, Botham, Hadlee and Kapil Dev get far more recognition than someone like Kallis.

I always thought Shaun Pollock was, and still is massively underrated as well.

Rubbish.

The players above get more credit because they had star quality and won games on their own often in dramatic circumstance. Kallis would grind you down with his obdurance. A conesseur of cricket would not underestimate Kallis.

Pollock is laughable, whenever the board discusses drop in standard of test attacks Pollock features highly in lists of those not playing now who were world class bowlers

I dont think anyone underestimates the bloke. I just dont think he gets the credit he deserves. Flintoff is apparently a top class all rounder....compared to Kallis?!

Does anyone outside of England really rate him as a top class all rounder though?

Australia/SA/WI/NZ/India - yup would walk into any of those teams at 7.
the diff between them is as good a batsmen (very very good at that) and bowler Kallis is, he never takes the game away quickly with the bat or runs through teams with the ball.
Fred would, agreed alot of the times he got wickets for the bloke at the other end through applying pressure.
Simon barnes from the times said it best, saying it wasnt just about the averages but his abilty to change a game that made him great.

My favorite cricketer, he is pure class.
He must be up there with Garry Sobers as the best all rounder ever, phenomenal record.
