Another sad loss of an ex-cricketer at a young age (55)

Very familiar radio voice and journalist in Australia in recent years

“@derekpringle: Peter Roebuck was a tortured, driven soul, but his suicide still comes as a shock. Cricket has lost its most erudite idealist”

RIP

He was a great writer but there was a darker side to him and I fear there was some scandal about to come out that's driven him to this. His assault conviction 10 years ago raised some eyebrows.

Seemed a bit of a strange bloke, he got done a few years ago for using the cane on 3 young cricketers IIRC so these rumours coming about around the time of his death are little surprise.

Yeah, definitley more than this than meets the eye. I fear more scandal to come.

Tried to bum a Zimbabwean cricketer he'd groomed online with promises of a career who then told the police. Police turned up, he asked the other journo (can't remember his name right now) to come to his room and help with a lawyer etc and then asked the police if he could change his clothes. Walked towards the wardrobe and just jumped out of the window next to it. All over the Aussie press.

Jim Maxwell.

Bessy mates- until the 1986 revolution at Zummerset.

Never knew that, I knew they hadn't always hated each other but couldn't see them having ever been really close, they seemed totally different people.

Ours as well now:

Got The Cricketer the other day. Roebuck gets panned in an article by Michael Henderson, never known a death of someone in sport to come with such cold 'tributes'.

Always the problem with skeletons in your cupboard, there's no case for defence when you aren't here to defend yourself.

Mind, he was weird.
