What sort of punishment can be thrown their way apart from the obvious ban from Cricket?

a jail sentence.
what surprises me is that despite the guilty verdicts so far (other charges still being deliberated) bail has been extended.
I hope their passports have been confiscated!

Butt could face seven years in jail when the pair are sentenced later this week. The lesser charge of conspiracy to cheat with which Asif was convicted carries a possible punishment of two years imprisonment.

Former captain Butt, 27, and fast bowler Asif, 28, plotted to bowl deliberate no-balls in the Lord's Test as part of a lucrative betting scam.

They've both been found guilty of two charges, one carrying a possible 7 year sentence and one carrying a possible 2 year sentence.

I think they'll get short, concurrent sentences, maybe a few months at most.

I know he is a cheating twat bue Amir could have been a fantastic bowler
The f***ing idiot....

he will be back. He is the only one who will come away with any dignity from this. Any doubt surrounding this case has gone with his guilty plea.

 Prison is the only option imo

Couldn't disagree more. These lads have cheated the sport and have rightly been found guilty. However, with reports of prisons being overcrowded, is it really necessary to jail two people who have ultimately not harmed a single human being? There are burglars, thieves and thugs whose actions seriously affect people's lives with their actions who don't face prison sentences anywhere near the severity that these two cheating cricketers face.

Take their careers away, never allow them to return to these shores again but for Gods sake don't lock them up at the expense of the tax payer. They are hardly a danger to the public

Could they take on the role of team manager/coach if they are banned from playing

They should be banned from the game of cricket altogether. They should not be able to make another penny from the game in any way, shape or form.

Agree with you regarding Asif and Butt. However Amir should be given another chance, after all he did plead guilty. A slap on the wrist together with the ban should suffice imo.

Whats the craic anyways? have they been sent down? They all brought their overnight bags apparently.

I reckon Butt will get 7 years, on the grounds he always said he did nothing wrong, despite being obviously guilty as fuck. That Sky reporter said she chatted to him in the canteen at the court and he only ever said he was innocent. The bloke must be on another planet.

The others not so sure. Because of guilty pleas I think 5 or 6 years for the agent and 1-2 years for Aamir, that one maybe suspended.

They already have been banned from cricket, so I don't think this will make any difference to that.

The other thing about watching this on SSN is that the press photographers and reporters outside the court are almost making me feel sympathy for the players. What is the point of getting another 200 snaps of them walking through the doors? And asking stupid questions like "are you expecting to go to jail?" as if they're going to get an answer. Some of those guys are the lowest form of scum. The court officials should get a grip.

If any of them receive a sentence of 5 years or more in jail it is conclusive proof that the British justice system is horribly warped. There are severely violet offenders who don't get those sentences

reading newpsaper reports from the court proceedings, the whole test series was rigged against us last summer

As I have always maintained Pakistan have the best bowling attack in world cricket bar none
