Yay - as long as you don't play him, Cook and Bell.

And Bopara just shouldn't be considered anymore, getting on for 70 games and he's done nowt to prove he deserves a place.

Bell must play in the last game, surely? I'd have him in for Kieswetter, though.

Why? Flatters to deceive, 1 hundred in 100 games? Simply not good enough

I'd open with Bairstow, who can also keep wicket.

Yay. What's the point in dropping our highest ICC ranked ODI player.

Bumble made a very good point about him during the game. Kohli is rated 4th best ODI batsman, is seen by pundits as one of the best ODI players at the moment, has 7 ODI centuries yet has a lower average than Trott who gets a rough ride from the media & fans alike. Trotts strike rate is only 4pts less too and he's played 29 less games than Kohli.

The only thing I'd say about that is that Kohli can accelerate (he was explosive in the IPL), he hasn't needed to in games like todays. Not sure Trott's capable of it.

But as I said, there's no problem with 1 or 2 players who bat through at 80, the problem's when you've got 4 of them as England so often do.

Trott's role in the team will be to score big runs at a strike rate of 80. It will be the role of other players to score runs more quickly around him - of course players must at times adapt to changing circumstances and Trott doesnt do that very well at times.

However its a yay from me.

OUT!!! until he starts playing more attacking shots. If he could improve his strike rate we would have a match winner on our hands but at the moment he is a match loser.

comparing him to Kohli is a joke first Kohli is young and still learning the game, 4.5 of strike rate is a massive difference.

Of the 18times Trott has got over 50 only twice has he got a strike rate of 100+ and the other 16 wern't even close. if he scores 30 he usually takes an age which puts us on the back foot and anything over 300 and he is in for a prolonged time we never win.

My major gripe is that he is so selfish he feels batting at his pace is fine. Get Taylor in at 3 and give him ago.

You need someone to play the anchor role in 50 overs cricket and Trott is as good as anyone at doing this.

well seen as he's only scored 3 ODI hundreds that stat is shite

and we are talking about odi's not test before you start

Can't argue with that

Point still stands. It's 3 times as many hundreds as Bell in 68 fewer games and a strike rate that is 5 better. Slightly behind Cook on strike rate but far better average and 1 more hundred from a similar number of games. Better strike rate than Bopara, miles better average.

Who would you go with?

Edit - having said that I wouldn't have in the team as he's South African (no problem with Meaker, Dernbach etc who've been schooled/learnt the game in England)

not really. Out of the 10 times he's got scores of 80+ on only 3 occassions have we gone onto win the game

James taylor for me looks like a player who can play the anchor role but at a quicker pace. Trott isn't far off but until he learns how to score faster he needs to be dropped. Bell shouldn't be anywhere near the team, Bopara has to play the number 7 spot as the allrounder or not play at all and Cook shouldn't have been picked as captain as IMO he is still not an odi player.

Not seen anything of Taylor to suggest he'd be any quicker than Trott, reminds me of Bell in that he may be able to time spinners down the ground but might struggle for boundaries.

Agree with everything else you've said, except that I'd put Bopara out to pasture, doesn't offer enough as a bowler to be an all rounder and his batting's just not up to it to play as a specialist. Him and Bell have had enough chances, time to stop going back to them.

Bopara will be good on skiddy tracks like in england and new zealand so he may be around for abit but for me he can go as well, just if he is to play he has to be the allrounder at 7 as his batting isn't good enough

His strike rate isn't ideal but he does the one thing no other England batsman does in ODI's - score runs.

Bell and Bopara both have inferior strike rates and don't score half the runs so I'd say Trott is the least of our batting worries at the moment. Kieswetter is looking like an inconsistent flash harry, Bell and Bopara continue to flatter to decieve and Pietersen still can't buy a decent score in ODI's. Trott's role in the team wouldn't be questioned if the players picked to play around him were performing, the problem is they aren't.
